Description
I bought this bike earlier in the year to do one specific event, I normally ride modern bikes off road, but was invited with a group of mates for a weekend trail riding / green laning in Wales, on the condition I came on an old bike…. Well this is it, built in the late 90’s out of parts as a trials bike for competition, I bought it as a complete, running machine, just needing a bit of fettling and recommissioning after a period laid up.
So what exactly is it…
A lightweight Triumph frame from 1939
The engine is an all aluminium 500cc 5T item from 1946, matched to a triumph 4 speed gearbox of similar vintage
The Hubs are Cub / Bantam recently laced to aluminium Acront rims, the tyres are Pirelli MT43’s front and rear and are virtually new
New 622 series concentric carb
The bike is light, just 115kg unbelievably, it’s been nicely built and well thought out, I did over 200 problem free off road miles over a 2 day period on this bike and I was surprised firstly on how reliable it was and secondly how much grunt it had, it came to me with a 16T engine sprocket which I changed for a 21, as I would be doing some road work but the 16T trials gearing does come with the bike, I’ve enjoyed the bike and ride classics on the road but I’ll be sticking to my Montesa in the future for my off road fun, the bike starts readily hot or cold, the motor is smooth, has no undue mechanical noise and it doesn’t smoke, the gearbox is great, changing smoothly and finding neutral easily, as I say , we had a great couple of days but it’s time to move on.
It is road registered, I have the current V5C in my name, registered historic for tax and MOT exemption this could be used as a cool road bike, a classic green laner or vintage trials, cash on collection only please, viewing is encouraged, this isn’t a show pony but a purpose built machine for a specific duty so while as you can see from the pictures it’s really quite nice, it is a functional off road machine, a battery operated brake light is fitted for road use but is easily detachable, thanks for looking, feel free to make an offer but keep it sensible please, a start up and walk around video is available on request
