Kawasaki KLR 600 A1 1984 in restored collectors’ condition
As you can see from the pictures, this bike is stunning. A rare bike, completely restored over a 3-year period using many Kawasaki new old stock parts, taking around 240 hours. It has been another one of those builds which costs for the restoration ran away with me as I wanted the bike to look it’s very best, so the result is a bike really for the collector who wants a lovely example to look at and appreciate.
To find one better it would need to be a new one still in the crate.
Armchair experts with no concept of costs, please keep comments to yourselves unless, they are positive.
Big 600cc DOHC 4 valve single with kick start and Kawasaki decompression system, the bike runs and rides but has not been on the road. Should you wish to use it the engine will require carefully running in as although it’s a 4 stroke the engine has been completely rebuilt.
The list of new old stock parts is extensive and fully documented, many of which such as bolts, seals, bushes, bearings, gaskets, clutch plates, etc. you cannot see but take note. More obvious are the NOS indicators, NOS rear lamp, tool kit bag.
The engine has been completely rebuilt using Kawasaki parts where available, bearings, seals, timing chain, tensioner, dohickey, neutral switch, clutch plates. Engine painted with cerakote.
Carb and fuel tap stripped, ultrasonic cleaned and vapour blasted.
All cables are NOS, as are the clutch and brake levers.
Refurbished wheels, new bearings, new Michelin Anakee Tyres.
New chain and sprockets.
NOS brake pads and shoes.
NOS front brake master cylinder.
Rebuilt front brake caliper using all NOS parts.
NOS swingarm chain slider.
NOS helmet hook.
NOS horn.
NOS grips.
NOS mirrors.
NOS seat.
Forks rebuilt with new NOS seals. Original Kawasaki gaitors.
Replacement wiring harness.
Bodywork professionally painted in Kawasaki Green with new decals.
Frame powder coated.
Various brackets, swingarm, rear shock spring, rear subframe, footpeg brackets, sides stand powder coated.
Excellent exhaust blasted and painted with Wurth exhaust paint. NOS seals and clamp.
The list is extensive.
Anyone viewing this can see the time, effort, and expense put into the bike. I will never recover all the money spent but would like the bike to go to someone who will appreciate it and take care of it.
A photographic history of the restoration will come with the bike, as will all receipts for parts.
Serious offers considered around £9, 500.
