A quite unique opportunity to buy a survivor car BMW 525i with an interesting spec with incredibly low mileage in as near as rust free condition as I have ever seen.
The car is a '1 owner car' with 2 registered keepers on the V5.
The car was purchased in May 1989 with its PDI being carried out by the Dingolfing plant in Lower Bavaria. The car was then not collected until February 1990 when it was brought back to its home in Henley-On-Thames where it has remained ever since.
The gentleman passed away around 2009 and the car has remained in dry storage sat up on a ramp on the family grounds ever since.
In 2018 the son applied for a v5 registration document because it had been mislaid, the intent was to sell the car but he became emotionally torn and the car again laid dormant until I purchased it in May this year, I have not added a keeper to the V5.
I have since carried out a recommisioning including:
- MOT until May 2024
- Oil and filter change
- Cam cover gasket
- Fuel pump and filter
- 6 new injectors
- Cambelt and waterpump
- Drive belt and AC belt
- Spark plugs and high quality ignition leads
- New number plates with period correct servicing dealer tags
- Coolant service
- Replacement OEM seat base foam in drivers seat (slightly deformed previously, I know, I have issues)
There are 3 BMW dealer services in the book @13k, 23k and 33k before a service and cambelt change by Thames Valley Racetech @41k and then a fairly major overhaul @ 54k in June this year.
The 525i has quite an interesting spec, being a 1989 build, it carries the older and rarer 2. 5 litre petrol, straight six, M20B25 engine matted to the optional sports automatic gearbox with switchable function.
Optional extras include:
- Bronze Beige metallic Paint
- Individual Brown Velour Upholstery
- Sport Suspension
- Cross Spoke 29 Alloy Wheels
- Alarm System
- Lift-up-and-slide-back Sunroof, Electric
- Electric Front Windows
- Auto Dip Rear View Mirror
- Independent Front Arm Rests Driver & Passenger
- Fog Lights
- Air Con
- On Board Computer Version 4
The car is not without marks but it is a survivor car that has not been restored or welded, it is the most solid E34 I have ever seen thanks to it being dry stored and not driven in wet conditions.
You could eat off the wheel arches and there is no signs of rust on the body or underneath, for me, it makes the absolute perfect basis for collection and/ or inexpensive modern classic ownership because the biggest problem these cars have, is not present at all, it is a true timewarp example.
There are some light scratches and chips but the overall condition of this car is mind blowing.
The only things that are not currently working are the radio which powers up and accepts a cassette but immediately rejects it, I haven't looked into this, I think most likely I would box it and fit a retro style bluetooth unit. The other thing is the AC needs regassing, my local garage doesn't have the older style gas so haven't got round to finding someone else to do it yet.
The condition of the interior is superb, no cracks in the dash at all, the door cards are not sagging or suffering from glue failure thanks to its years stored out of the sun.
The front seats have no rips or wear and as said previously, I managed to get hold of a new drivers seat base foam from BMW Germany to keep the car feeling like new.
There is 1 nick in the rear seat bench just under 1cm where something must have snagged it.
It has OEM mats with the vinyl heel pad untorn.
We have obviously given the car a good service with fluids and belts changed along with a fueling system overhaul.
The tyres are matching Michelin Pilots with 6mm+ tread with no signs of perishing though they must be at least 10 years old.
The 525i comes with 1 key, original service book, V5, HPI certificate, MOT certificate, Radio booklet and BMW service guide.
I think this car ticks a lot of boxes, no rust to worry about, great condition, an early car with the M20 6 pot, interesting history with an interesting spec combined with a service overhaul and clean MOT.
I can be pretty flexible with viewings though I would prefer not to go out in the rain as the underside is so clean! Please feel free to fire away with any questions or photo requests.
