PLEASE NOTE, I have completed the software conversion from Japanese to English language on the vehicle information systems including configuring the odometer to display Miles instead of Kilometres and loading UK radio frequencies as well as changing the speedometer dial to a UK version showing Miles per hour. This work costs in the region of £400 - £500 to complete. When comparing with other imports from Japan check that this work has been completed.
Why are Volvos imported from Japan typically much better than UK supplied Volvos?
Japanese Volvo owners take their Volvos to the Volvo Main Dealer for service.
Japan’s MOT (2 yearly ‘Shaken’) is much more stringent than UK equivalent.
The condition of Japan's roads are the best in the world - smooth, chipping and pot-hole free - so cars take less punishment.
Car parks have wider spaces, so bodywork and doors don't get dented as much.
Apart from a very few exceptions, Japan does not 'salt' roads in winter, so no underbody rust.
Lower mileage - as driving long distances is uneconomic e. g. a typical 400 mile trip costs approx. £100 in motorway Tolls, It's easier to go by train!
There are no company cars in Japan, all Volvos are privately owned so the level of care is much higher.
Companies don't provide employee parking, employees commute by train, they don't take the car.
The rigorous 'Shaken' inspections, every 2 years, are expensive so this is seen as a good time to buy a new car and avoid the cost of another Shaken.
