1963 Renault Estafette 800 Plateau pick up, 1108cc petrol 4 speed manual, 84, 000 kms (52, 500 miles), canvas tilt, tax & MOT exempt as historic vehicle. Owned 4 years, imported 2019 (originally from a village south of Paris & used by the same family all it's life), had a full body & mechanical restoration over a few years up to that. Still in amazing condition, only minor marks from use. Had it looked after by a vintage vehicle specialist garage near us but it’s not really needed much in that time as the restoration was so good originally – regular oil changes, brake checks, had a new battery, HT leads, plugs and exhaust silencer last year. Stored with trickle charger and cover over the winters, has always started no problem.
It is quite low geared by today’s standards obviously, probably 80kmh max. The '800' is the carrying capacity in Kg. Basic and quirky inside as you’d expect although it does have a 12v USB charging socket in the cab. And air con – flaps that open in the roof…. The heater works fine too. The load area is surprisingly big and practical, the canvas hood tilts forward and apparently can come off completely although have never done that. We have the (English language) owner’s operation manual for it too. Also have a winter breathable waterproof cover for it.
It’s had some magazine articles on it which we have kept – details the history etc plus it’s featured in 2 big budget films due out early 2024. Believed to be the only one of this model and era on the road in the UK. Been great fun pottering around locally in it, doing films and going to a few shows each year. Always brings a smile to people's faces.
