Description

1998 MX5 Mk1 Classic edition of which only 400 were made. This model included 15” alloys specific to the model, leather seats, Momo steering wheel and other items including power steering and some stainless interior parts. This car also has the quite special Rocketeer V6 conversion completed which as a UK registered Mk1 is a rare car. Extensive history, 5 owners (current owner for 6 years), MOT May 2024. I have owned this car for six years which was purchased as a fun weekend project car and have enjoyed every moment. After a couple of years of ownership, I wanted for more power and started looking at turbo conversions when I came across the Jaguar V6 Rocketeer conversion. I instantly knew I had to have that V6 noise and power and that it would be a really fun project. The conversion and all work has been completed by myself (for context I am a highly qualified and experienced engineer with over 20 years in the energy industry and previously made components for F1 cars and Moto GP) and after the conversion in 2019 the car was checked over by Basset Down Balancing who complete the turnkey conversions where it was fitted with a new set of Bosch coils to suit the later kit MBE ECU. A newer engine with 46k miles was fitted in 2022. The V5C logbook is up to date.

The car has practically been rebuilt during my ownership, both sills completed by Nidor Bodyworks where I also had both doors and one wing re-sprayed to tidy up the car.

Upgrades that have been completed during the conversion and my ownership (as well as a number of quality-of-life replacements):
MK2 3. 6 Torsen LSD (to handle the additional power safely)
Meister R adjustable coil overs
Willwood front big brake kit
Mk2 2. 5 rear big brakes
Custom fabricated power flow stainless cat back exhaust system (fitted in the winter) that keeps the noise sensible.
Dave fab washer bottle, coolant reservoir and brake booster bracket. Mishimoto upgraded radiator.
TR lane safety roll bar (for peace of mind as I also take my children out in the car, this can easily be removed)
Japan Racing JR3 light weight wheels with Michelin PS3 tyres
Various sensible interior mods including custom V6 dials.

The car has been well cared for and includes an extensive history file. I also have original parts and a high number of spares that I am happy to include with the sale. The car is in very good condition (having seen many at shows where this car gets a lot of attention), there are some minor body marks and some small minor surface rust marks from stone chips and on some of the window trim, all expected for a car this age, it also has some minor scrape marks on the rails under the car common for lower cars.
I am more than happy to take anyone through the conversion process and discuss any details about the car. The car has covered 104k (which is largely irrelevant given the work and low miles engine) and wants for nothing.

I welcome any tests or inspections, please contact me if you would like any further information.
