Descrizione
Launched at the Paris motor show of May 1967, the Simca 1100 was one of the first hatchback designs to enter production, with a folding rear seat and in 3 and 5 - door variations. when first shown in Sardinia and at the Paris Auto show in 1967, the 1100 was advanced in design, featuring a hatchback with folding rear seats, disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, an independent front (double wishbone) and rear (trailing arm) suspension using torsion bars. The engine was slanted to allow for a lower bonnet; and the engine, gear box and suspension were carried on a sub-frame to allow the unibody to be relatively unstressed. The body was welded to the frame, rather than simply bolted. the 1100 was reportedly studied closely by Volkswagen when they were designing the golf. Different equipment levels were defined as LS, GL and GLS.
The example offered here is in marvellous all round condition.
Thanks to the fitment of the rack and pinion steering with double wishbone independent front suspension, the driving experience of the Simca is surprisingly modern and also comfortable. The layout of the suspension results in a vehicle which is pitch-free and comfortable to ride in over all types of terrain. It provides a taut well controlled ride, there is very little roll on corners. The rack and pinion steering is well known for its general excellence in a car designed to be driven rather than simply used. The Simca keeps up with modern traffic with ease, cabin space is great, 5 can be seated in comfort with great all round visibility. Even by today's standards, the Simca can easily carry the whole family with their luggage etc, thanks to the spacious cabin and boot, the comfy seats are fully functional. The rear seat folds down to provide considerably more luggage space of van proportions.
This very desirable matching numbers example has merely had 2 registered keepers in its lifetime of 56 years. The first from new on 7 February 1968 to 21 August 2012 and the second from 21 August 2012. The car remains in remarkably original condition throughout. As it presents and drives today, it is a credit to both of it's keepers/ owners and indeed, Simca. This lovely hatchback truly cuts a dash with a driving experience which is much more modern than you might expect due to its advanced specification when built.
The car's file contains its current v5c and retains its original hand book, with service book which details the supplying dealer as "Finlays" of Paisley. There is also an automotive technical review book.. (owners illustrated repair manual)
This now extremely rare car on the UK roads draws a great deal of attention and no wonder. It is surely among the best, if not the best of the very small number out there. in the UK today. In truth, i have difficulty imagining a better example. In essence what is offered for sale here is a fully functioning piece of French motoring history in exceptional all round condition aligned to a genuine investment opportunity and of course pride of ownership opportunity with the added benefit of no burden or fees to pay for road tax, mot's or Ulez congestion.
