For Sale is our lovely 1979 TVR Taimar coupe in TVR two tone blue/ silver livery. Lightly used in the last few years and subject to a chassis up restoration in 2014, she is ready for the new owner to enjoy with sympathetic upgrades throughout.
The Taimar was produced from 1976 as part of the M-series range, with a total of 395 made during production and far fewer on the road today. With the same underpinnings as the previously range topping 3000M, it featured a large rear hatchback style body and could reach 140mph.
The car benefits from a Holley four barrel carb supplied as an upgrade for the 3. 0 Ford Essex V6 engine by Swaymar race engines in 1982. This aids in producing a highly addictive roar through the stainless steel exhaust, which accompanies the excellent torque of the 3. 0 unit throughout the rev range and up to over 6, 000 rpm. The engine has been rebored, with new pistons fitted during the restoration. The Essex V6 is still well supported by suppliers such as Burton power and currently represents a mild state of tune with plenty of upgrade options on the market. The Ford Type 9 gearbox gives a meaty shift and is famously robust.
AVO adjustable dampers feature on all four corners, giving a precise handling experience. The sub-1000kg mass, combined with the torque of the 3. 0l unit exemplifies the British lightweight sportscar experience.
On the interior, period looking Smiths electronic gauges have been fitted, helpfully backlit for night time driving. The stereo is a modern Pioneer MVH-X560BT unit, with Bluetooth connectivity and the two speakers in the rear compartment plenty powerful enough to overcome the throaty exhaust note. During the restoration, the interior was re-trimmed in a high quality cream leather with blue piping on the seat and cream and blue leather dashboard. The seats are very forgiving with plenty of support for long distance drives.
The exterior is striking, with the large heated glass rear panel reminiscent of the similar aged Jenson Interceptor. Originally fitted with a webasto style sunroof, perfect for enjoying summer drives. The original TVR wheels were produced solely for the Taimar and are in excellent condition, shod with Uniroyal Rainexpert tyres. The chromed bumpers complete the look.
A USB stick detailing the 2014 restoration is included alongside a comprehensive history file with original files dating back to the 1979 TVR warranty certificate.
Originally bought with the intention of going regularity rallying in 2021, she is offered for sale today due to conflicting circuit racing commitments meaning she is deserving of an owner able to more regular use her. This Taimar would be equally at home on the HERO rally series as she would being a B-road blaster or Sunday cruiser.
