Beschreibung
Sold new by Brooklands London Aston Martin on the 1st April 1961 and originally finished in California Sage Green over red Connolly leather, this DB4 benefits from long term family ownership over the years. DB4/ 555R was delivered new to first owner, S. H. Barnett of Checkendon Court, Oxfordshire with early records showing that optional heated rear lights were factory specified and a 2, 000-mile service was completed in May 1961.
Later sold by Brooklands of Bexley, Kent in November 1986 to one the most recent vendors and avid motor car collector. During this 33 year ownership the DB4 has undergone various cosmetic and mechanical work.
In 2003, the coachwork was upgraded to a far better colour scheme, that of Snow Shadow Grey, the beautiful Turing of Milan curves finally able to be seen in all their glory. In 2003, new chromework was fitted by B. J. Miles and in 2006, a comprehensive job list was made up by Aston Martin specialist, Pugsley & Lewis. The list was approved and the works carried out. This included comprehensive engine work, transmission and propshaft work, new front and rear brake disc and calipers, new tyres all round and a 5, 000 service. This alone was split into seven sections and extremely detailed. This was followed again in 2007 with some steering rack geometry work, suspension and other miscellaneous electrical issues.
This matching numbers example still retains its body tag and presents in very original order. The paintwork shows some signs of age but the overall condition is good. The interior shows comprehensive patina and the time for some attention approaches. Mechanically the DB4 is sound, the engine is strong and in good driving condition. Showing just 74, 000 miles on the odometer, this represents a wonderful and original example sitting proudly, as it does, on the correct 16” wire wheels and comes complete with a comprehensive history file including an original DB4 instruction book and factory build sheet.
The DB4 finally changed hands in 2020 after 33 years due to the unfortunate passing of the vendor. In June of 2022, this car was treated to a comprehensive service including the removal of half shafts and greased, carburettor refurbishment and set up, brakes overhaul and general systems check at noted specialist. So, mechanically the car is on the button, this cherished example is fully up and driving, and ready to be enjoyed by a new custodian after, but one, 33 years of single-family ownership. This example is a great daily user and all original. In beautiful condition but also not a show car, it lends itself to being more usable and as a result enjoyed.
