Beskrivning
"Goffin" is a remarkable Austin 12/ 4 Clifton tourer, having been owned by the same family from new in 1927 until 2013. Sold by Holland Bros of Sleaford to the Goffin family of Hall Farm, Londonthorpe, it was in regular use until 1941 when wartime petrol shortages meant it was laid up. In 1943, it was converted into a pickup truck for use on the farm before being taken off the road once again in 1955. During 1967-68, it was subject to an extensive restoration, including sourcing a replacement body of the correct type, rebuilding the engine and much else. Since then it was used regularly by the family for days out, shows and vintage car runs before once again retiring to a barn around the milennium due to the owner's advancing years. The car was auctioned-off as part of the estate sale on the owners death and has since then been through the hands of a couple of owners before I acquired it. "Goffin" is running and driving well, with recent work including a re-cored radiator, re-lined brakes, new Blockley tyres, rebuilt dynamo and magneto, and an overhaul of the fuel system and carburettor, as well as the usual servicing. The overall condition is good and solid but the paintwork is now showing its age and the next owner may want to address some areas or, alternatively, retain the lovely patina it has acquired. Similarly, the interior and weather equipment are in good condition but are vinyl or leathercloth, rather than the original leather. Full sidescreens are present but somewhat yellowed. The car comes with a comprehensive history file, handbook and various period manuals, plus an amount of spare parts. I bought the car because the Goffin's farmed in the same district as my family, and my great grandfather also had an Austin 12/ 4 tourer purchased new from Holland Bros. Having enjoyed owning "Goffin" very much, I am now reluctantly selling because, with the other cars in my collection, I'm just not using it enough and storage space is getting a little short.
