Finished in Arctic White with blue cloth interior, this immaculate 190E 1. 8 is in time capsule condition, having been fastidiously looked after by just one owner from new until his death earlier this year.
The condition of this car is absolutely exceptional for its age. It really is like a car of less than three years old. There are no notable marks to the bodywork, no rust, no major stone chips, no chips in the windscreen and no fading to any of the plastic trim or plastic indicator and rear light lenses. They in particular are box fresh, indicative of a car which has always been garaged and kept out of sunlight. Underneath is also nearly new condition. No notable corrosion to the underside and suspension, the wheel arches are clean and white painted still. On inspection the jacking points are like new. No scratches from roadside wheel changes and still with the factory wax protection visible.
Inside is a similar story, a perfect blue cloth interior and perfect door cards - rare on a W201 as the vinyl usually blows due to temperature and humidity changes. This car is perfect in that regard owing to careful storage from the elements, shown too by the bright unfaded condition of the instruments which in most after 30 years have faded from orange to yellow. Also, the pedals, MB Tex steering wheel and gear knob still have a freshness to the texture pattern that is missing from high mileage, multiple user vehicles. The man who bought this car new, minded its care for over 30 years, clearly treating it with utmost respect and operating it with extreme care over all of that time.
On the road, the 190E performs well, the 1. 8 engine is peppy enough to easily keep up with modern traffic, it has ABS brakes so stops as well as modern cars and will achieve approaching 40mpg on a run. The manual gearbox and clutch are delightful to use and this really is a refresher course on what you actually need in a good motor vehicle. It is an absolute breath of fresh air in a world of frankly horrible, over designed and ghastly modern cars. These older Mercedes cars, especially ones that still drive as nicely as this just make you feel good as you cruise around. It is difficult to describe but impossible to replicate in lesser cars!Showing 0 keepers on the logbook, and with a good history of maintenance, this must be among the nicest most original examples of the W201 series left in the UK. It certainly will be among a handful of genuine '1 owner' cars.
In genuine exemplary condition this will be a tricky car to better. In preparation for sale the car has just been subject to a major service, replacement bonnet lining and full machine polish and ceramic coating. It looks and drives like a car less than a tenth its age. On a nice day with the sunroof open and some cheesy music playing from the Blaupunkt cassette, what better way to remind yourself of a better time for motoring.
