The ?Audax? body style was designed by the Rootes Group, with help from the iconic American Raymond Loewy studio, who were involved in the design of Studebaker coupés.
Consequently, the Hillman Minx- with lashings of chrome and an American feel ? is perceived as way cooler than almost any other British car of the period!
A Series III deluxe saloon with 1494 cc engine tested by the British magazine The Motor in 1958 had a top speed of 76. 9 mph (123. 8 km/ h) and could accelerate from 0?60 mph (97 km/ h) in 25. 4 seconds. A fuel consumption of 31. 8 miles per imperial gallon (8. 9 L/ 100 km; 26. 5 mpg US) was recorded. The test car cost £794 including taxes of £265.
This very pretty Minx, arguably in the very best colour combination, was owned 40 years from new by husband & wife until 2001. It was then stored until 2009, when acquired by our family and re-commissioned, with a full mechanical service and re-build of the braking system and some replacement steering joints.
It has been with us ever since, registered ownership alternating between father & daughter- and back again.
It has always been garaged from new, well-maintained, never abused or fallen into the wrong hands and is unrestored. Even the paintwork is largely original.
It comes complete with original handbook, service record book, some early service invoices and the sales brochure. There is also a collection of tax discs going back to 1963 which indicate the car was rarely, if ever, used over the winter. That is borne out by the fact the optional heater was not fitted to the car when new- but I do have a complete heater kit available if required. Although the speedometer works correctly, the odometer does not- but the mileage covered during our 14 yr ownership has been nominal. A 'new old-stock' speedo complete is included in the sale.
Although not required owing to exemption, the car was MOT?d last year for peace of mind and passed without advisories.
New tyres and battery were fitted in 2021.
