Rare type 54 non federal small light bowl model as type 47 race car.
1969
Original useable rare classic.
A strong engine that starts first time and needs no choke or warming up to be smooth running.
Gear change is good, reworked linkage, stainless exhaust.
Was imported from California years ago where it was purchased from a Californian Maserati dealership. I have video of the car driving there.
It feels good as a LHD car (you feel quite shielded from oncoming traffic) but if you wanted to convert to RHD Colin Chapman made this easy! Reverse the dash, then a RHD pedal box, steering rack from a Spitfire, use the existing Spitfire column, very basic.
I use the car regularly and its been reliable and fun. I'm 6ft 3 but it feels more comfortable than a Spitfire, MG or GT6 and roomier with its panoramic screens.
The car is very original and unmodified with even the original rare wheels.
It has the original steering wheel horn push and ashtray which are both worth a lot of money on their own.
Solid original chassis, there is one plate that is on the pedal box flap which is stronger for it and I have thoroughly checked all the chassis- it has no paint just waxoyl so easy to inspect which I have done thoroughly before I bought it early this year.
Paint on the body is patina but looking very good for it, a soft shine with wear of polishing in places. The car looks more aluminium than fibreglass with this finish. The car originally was a Lotus dark green.
New battery, all new fuel lines and filter.
This is a rare type 54, most are restoration projects or fully restored, great opportunity.
Viewing welcome most days. One of the first mid engine production cars.
Survivor car not for resto or show very hard to find in this condition and a rare type 54 too.
