Description

This Land Rover has been patiently put back together over the last 3 years. It was originally bought as a restoration project having mostly original panels and running gear, but missing many parts. What motivated the purchase was the galvanised chassis, matching numbers and it being an original unmolested example.
It comes with all the evidence of the expenditure made over the last few years which includes all these brand new parts, canvas hood, wiring loom, wheels and tyres, fuel tank, seats, lights, wing mirrors, radiator, propshaft, glow plugs, clutch and upgraded crankshaft seal, wheel cylinders, clutch slave cylinder and master cylinders, slides and seals in doors. Galvanised sill rails and bulkhead supports. Theres also lots of second hand parts that have been sourced for it which aren't accounted for, such as exhaust, tailgate, tub floor etc

Overall this series presents very nicely, it sits just right, fires up first turn of the key, pulls up straight and well and overall feels very solid and dependable. Ideally it needs an extended shakedown, being so freshly put together, but from the miles I've put on it it hasn't missed a beat.

Underneath you'll see the extent of the work carried out, its rock solid, with no rust anywhere, new panels round the floor and inner arches, new tub floor and hard to find tailgate. All running gear performs as expected, and was fully serviced when the body was off the vehicle.

The bodywork overall is very good, the bulkhead has been restored, with lots of new metal welded in to a high standard, straight panels which fit well for a series, no corrosion etc. There are of course plenty of blemishes and imperfections etc, please look at the photographs in detail and they'll reveal themselves.

The interior is great, brand new seats, brand new canvas hood, restored dashboard, with new vinyl etc, all original and working switches and one additional period switch to control the fan heater, ideally the heater motor wants replacing as it whines a bit) Everything works perfectly electrically, helped by having a brand new wiring loom.

Mechanically, very strong engine, having covered just 57, 300 miles, it pulls very well, doesn't get hot, settles at normal temperature, hand throttle and gearbox is working perfectly, along with all low range gears and 4 wheel drive. There is a little bit of smoke during start up, this goes away when running and warmed up, apparently adjusting the injector pump can cure this.

The downsides to this Landrover for someone looking for a perfect example would be the paint, it's been painted in a workshop to a decent standard, it's a bit thin in certain places, if I was keeping it I'd be more than happy with it, it's very befitting of a landrover of this period, but undeniably a really good paint job would elevate this car to a new level. Despite this, it presents very very well. The suspension is a little bit stiff, I've heard most SWB series are and with leaf springs and tyres that have done less than 100 miles I'm sure the ride will only improve further with more running.

Overall this is a very honest and original Landrover, matching numbers and very well reassembled with no corners cut. The extensive recent expenditure will back this up. It doesn't have lots of history mainly a lot of paperwork covering the last few years. It comes with 2 sets of keys and spare wheel also. It has been stored inside for the last few years.

I'd really prefer anyone interested to come and take a proper look themselves. I'm open to very sensible offers. I also have a walk round video of the car I can send via whatsapp to anyone interested
