Description

2002 Range Rover 4. 4 Vogue with BRC LPG conversion

Epsom Green with Sand interior and Cherry wood

I bought this car in February to use daily. I spent six months looking for the right example at the right price and was offered this car by the reader of a magazine to which I contribute. It came with a useful amount of service history - though unfortunately no service book - plus showed signs of caring former owners including a full set of factory rubber floor mats and matching boot mat. The LPG tank lives in the spare wheel well but the spare comes in a bag to ensure your luggage stays clean.

Unfortunately the last couple of months have seen extensive changes in my personal circumstances - I’ve taken on the editorship of a Jaguar magazine and my partner’s new commute means I’m doing almost a thousand miles per week. Logically, as a daily driver I need something with a Jaguar badge that can do more than 14mpg! LPG does cut costs at around 89ppl where I live, but it’s still not ideal for the sort of mileage I now cover.

It has had in the region of £4500’s worth of work in my care, which is logged photographically in the Car Mechanics features which will come with the car in PDF format. This work has included:

LPG system service at specialist C G Gas of Peterborough.
New front discs and pads - approx 500 miles old. I have a set of rears but haven't had chance to fit them. For the asking price I’d include these in the sale.
Replacement offside driveshaft as I had a worn CV.
Replacement valley pan gasket.
Replacement cam sensor on bank 2.
Replacement water pump.
Replacement intake hose
Numerous replacement coolant hoses.
Rear windscreen wiper repair.
Rear fog lamp circuit repair.
The ashtray in one of the rear doors has been replaced as it was damaged.
The dash LCDs have been revived by Boyd Beattie at Pixelsfixed, and all work.
Voice control system repair - note it will need a new mic to reintegrate as mine is connected to the Android system.
Four new Falken Wildpeak AT3WA tyres that have done under 100 miles - these retail at around £150/ corner plus fitting.
Refitted original type cigarette lighter and fitted lighter plugs.
Carpet mats to accompany the rubber ones it came with.
Luggage nets fitted in the boot to make the most use of the space.
Added later driver's cupholder assembly as a spare. I still have the original ashtray and will include this in the sale.
Rust treated both rear dog legs and painted them to protect them. They need work but have just passed an MoT without fault, and my man reckons there’s a couple of years left before work is needed. .
The rear DVD system is erratic but its issues have been diagnosed - it doesn't like dual layer discs but will play single layer discs happily.

The above work was carried out either by me or by Avenger4x4 in Peterborough, and it has been documented extensively in Car Mechanics magazine as a project car.

I have also fitted an Android head unit of a design which approximates the original (XTRONS IQ7039B, RRP £489. 99), and painted the front face to match the dash. This means that cosmetically, it is almost identical to the original head unit but incorporates things like Google Maps, Spotify and so on. It also uses the IBUS app to retain connectivity with the car's systems such as the trip computer and clock, which many aftermarket systems have to sacrifice. The unit includes DVD integration, DAB and Wi-fi connectivity as well as Bluetooth hands free and a visual parking sensor aid. The original system was state of the art in 2002, this one is state of the art today.

So what’s wrong with it? One of the rear parking sensors is a little iffy in that it’s adamant it’s only a couple of inches away from an impact when there's nothing there. The upper backrest no longer operates independently on the drivers’ seat, and a couple of minor dash lights for the vents don’t work. The steering column adjustment is seized, but can be adjusted manually with tools if needed. Apart from that, it all works. Cosmetically, there are a couple of cracks on the rear light lenses and a dent in one side that I never had time to get removed.

If you’re not a fan of the Cherry veneer I also have a full set of Walnut, as seen in the late Queen’s own Epsom Green Range Rover with Sand trim which recently sold for a six figure sum. For the asking price (or near), I will include this in the sale. There are also a set of rear discs and pads, the original head unit and a spare parcel shelf.

It's MoTed until 10 Oct 2024, and the LPG conversion is listed on the UKLPG register under the car’s original registration of LL02EWA. Recorded Cat D, I think because of the wing scrape. The registration plate P44JCP will come with the car. Classic insurance friendly, it's insured on my classic fleet policy at about £50/ yr.

If you have a pre-2006 Jaguar XJ6 or Sovereign 3. 0, I would be willing to discuss some sort of part exchange deal or swap.
