Super 200 Kit:

High flow BBR panel air filter.
BBR stainless steel catless 4 into 1 exhaust manifold.
BBR high performance intake and exhaust camshafts (but idles 90% like standard cams).
BBR 3. 5 Inch branded tailpipes with stainless steel clamps. £75
BBR StarChip ECU remap with dyno at BBR with proven 205bhp (see dyno pic).
Switchable on the cruise control between 98+ octane (mode 1), 95+ octane (mode 3), valet mode (mode 4), and 98+ octane + RaceCom options.
Ecutek software with Racecom options include launch control, rev limits per gear, flat shifting, and auto-blip on down changes – mode 2. Never used though as I I enjoy rev matching.

Additional BBR kit:

Stainless 2. 5” exhaust centre section with sport cat £630
Koni Adjustable Suspesnion (dampers and springs) £1000

Further upgrades: £2000+

Moroso Expansion tank (stock plastic ones are a weak spot now the cars are getting old) £350
RX8 anti roll bars front and rear £400
Jass Lowering mounts on the drivers seats so your bum is nearer the floor £150
Replacement Nautilus Horn (149db to make other drivers ‘aware’ when you’re in such a low car!)
Windscreen wiper RX8 stalk with intermittent option
Brass gear stick bush for more precise and more direct shift feeling
Reverse gear lockout changed – better changes between 1st and 2nd. Still tricky when cold. For perfect, buy an NA.
Zunsport grill
Royal Steering Wheels leather wheel with flat bottom and red top marker.
Newer version of driver’s side seatbelt top guide so belt slides back better.
Delrin door bushes – claimed to reduce door rattles and stiffen the whole frame of the car.
Colour coded rear lip spoiler, professionally fitted with extra strong glue.
Emergency roof closing kit. Although these PRHTs are very reliable so should never be needed. These are hard to find, but I reckoned that if I had one, the roof wouldn’t let me down – a bit like carrying an umbrella so it doesn’t rain.

Important Maintenance: £3500+

Rust treatment and proofing by Anand Viad March 2021 (Anand is THE man to do this, check his instagram to how thorough his work @avruztynutz) £500 - £1000 (previous owner)

New Clutch & Master Cylinder £700
New Tyres – Goodyear Asymmetric 6 - best road tyres (sportier than Michelin PS4’s) £500
Suspension bolts and bushes replacement £1200
(if your car hasn’t had this done, it will need it and it will be an expensive job)
Fast road alignment from FCM Bristol (fantastic reputation)
New front brake calipers discs and pads (Brembo) £500
New Yuasa Battery May 2023 £80
Gearbox Oil swapped to Castrol SynTrans – Agreed to be the best for shifting in MX5’s £80
Recent rear discs and pads (Brembo)£150
Rear Diff Oil – Redline Fully Synthetic
Air Conitioning Recharge £60
Bosch Windscreen Wipers
Replaced Lambda Sensor £150

A lot of the age related big jobs have come under my ownership, for example:
Clutch and master cylinder £700
Replacing seized front brake calipers £500
The one people don’t expect, Seized alignment bolts. Which is a labour intensive and surprisingly expensive job. They’ll all need this doing pretty soon if not already. Most of the front and rear suspension bushes have been replaced with high quality replacements (powerflex road) so no increased vibration. £1200
It’s got new tyres with less than 1000 miles on them, Goodyear Assy 6’s got the best reviews for sporty road tyre. £500

Yes, the car has reasonable miles on it but in the region of 9, 000 miles per year – so no gummed up rings on this one. Still uses no oil, shows it’s been properly serviced all it’s life. The car has a folder full of history to back this up.

With around £7000 of upgrades plus £3500 of big jobs that you would likely face on any used NC makes this car look like great value.

Or to buy a used standard NC for say £7000 and build a similar BBR Super 200 would cost in the region of £13, 000. Whichever way you look at it, it’s a lot of car for the money. The BBR Super 200 is the perfect British B-Road sports car. You can spend plenty of time revving it out. It dances down the road and can corner the nuts off anything bar a Caterham. Hard top makes it a more complete car offering security from both weather and those who might have a go at a soft top. I haven’t done any track days in this car, I’m personally not that bothered about them after doing a few in other cars. And i’ve just got 42mpg on a motorway run at a steady 70mph, pretty good!
