Bought this GS550E to do a Pointless Challenge, 26th June 2021.... I ride long distance (Iron Butt).
The Pointless Challenge was to ride a bike we would have had in our 20's and ride 1000 miles in under 24hrs,... only 3 of us finished, my GS550E, a Katana 650, and an XBR500, got the t-shirt and memories.
Now I need to pass it on, I think the pics speak for themselves, at various stages during the much-needed maintenance.
I have some 'before' pics that are not pretty. I was told it was cherished by his 'grandfather'... it was not cherished... but it is now correct. It was bought unseen from a private seller in Cornwall during Covid-19 and delivered.
She now has 'Historical' status with the DVLA so no need for an MOT, just need to tick the box once a year.
I had planned on painting her, hence the paint and decals are included as well... but I decided I liked the original look.
These bikes usually go the Cafe or Bobber look so... your choice, I'm a 'stock' man. I consider this a stock bike, obviously, things that perish on ‘Historical’ machine need replacing. I have receipts for everything, and the list of parts bought is below. A lot of my time and resources have gone into this bike, but it’s time to move on. I have another classic from my youth to work on.
