The rarer, domestic‑market sibling to the RG500 Gamma.
Historical Background
• The RG‑Gamma series launched in 1983 as Suzuki’s road‑going interpretation of its dominant GP two‑stroke programme.
• The RG400 Walter Wolf was produced 1986–1987, sold only in Japan, and styled after the Canadian oil magnate Walter Wolf’s racing sponsorship colours.
• Mechanically, it is a 397 cc version of the RG500 Gamma, sharing the same:
• Square‑four engine layout
• Rotary‑valve induction
• Exhaust power valves
• Aluminium perimeter frame
• The 400cc displacement allowed it to fit Japan’s domestic licensing and tax brackets while retaining the exotic engineering of the 500.
