Description
1927 Austin Heavy 12/ 4 'Windsor' genuine barn find - left in a scrapyard in 1963 (due to tyres not available), discovered in 1963 by a farmer who drove it to his barn, left it there 53 years untouched. Found and rescued in his barn 2016. Over the next 7 years - 3 of us - 'custodians' each added a bit more to retain its character and to repair and service it to run perfect. Original paintwork & wings 'patinated' but all metal as solid as a rock. Starts on the button, stops very well (for 2 ton). Interior almost original and very good, all leather seats, door cards OK. Original hidden TOOLS still in tact. Full set of New brake shoes recently. New hand-built (by professionals) replacement distributor, low rev's bob-weights A&R, electronic ignition and high spec' coil (can't tell though!!! that's why it starts on the button!!) Original Klaxon. All mechanics OK. Rear folding luggage rack. All new tyres & tubes. New full silencer. Always a very popular talking point and well appreciated at VAR and Classic Car meets. Used daily - but simply - it's time to move on at NO PROFIT [1927 12/ 4 'Clifton Tourer' awaiting in the wings for spring]If you like talking to enthusiasts of vintage & classic cars - THIS IS THE MAGNET. It's in original 'Oily-Rag' condition, but runs sweetly mechanically and very reliable, always gets waves from onlookers. Not at all fast, but safe and keeps up with town traffic. a 2024 400 mile trip to a VAR meeting - fully laden with heavy invalid car, luggage and three passengers posed no problem. It needs a new custodian with a garage. But its already survived 97 years and should be left unchanged - however, being realistic, if you MUST restore the paintwork (say £3500) its value is still up in the £20, 000.
