Rare, R100CS in immaculate, fully restored condition.
I may regret this, but another bike has caught my eye and so reluctantly, I’m offering my beautiful BMW R100CS for sale. My bike was fully restored by serial R90S restorer Keith Shaw and Gary Burton of BaMW (Google “BaMW Derby” and “Shaw Stainless” for more details if you are not aware of them). Keith told me he restored the bike for his own use, but that his good friend Gary Burton persuaded him to sell it to him for his own personal collection. He said that it was one of the smoothest engines he had rebuilt and having owned a number of airheads I do not doubt it. You will struggle to find another R100CS in this condition. Keith was the founder of Shaw Engineering (now run by his son Chris), making stainless steel components, and practically every exposed nut and bolt on this bike is in stainless steel. The attention to detail in the restoration shows care and a no expense spared attitude that shines through. It would be impossible to restore a BMW airhead to this standard and level of thoroughness today for the asking price of this bike.
The R100CS was the last of the line starting with the R90S and then finally the R100CS. Launched in 1981 it featured a host of updates over the previous R100S making it a much nicer bike to ride and own. These included electronic ignition, easy access air filter, new, more comfortable seat (the older model had the first aid kit in the seat padding), lighter clutch, Brembo brakes, new, easier to use switch gear, return to rear drum brake (much easier to maintain and just as effective), taller final drive ratio for easier cruising, Nikasil barrels, handlebar mounted choke lever, etc.
