1987 Porsche 944 Turbo

Introduced in 1987, the turbocharged version of the mid-level, front-engined Porsche 944 was released to worldwide critical acclaim, thanks to its impressive power levels, GT-car levels of refinement, and near-perfect weight distribution, thanks to the transaxle gearbox setup shifting weight over the rear wheels. Boasting a 2. 5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine generating nearly 220bhp, the 944 Turbo was capable of a respectable 0-60 time of 5. 9 seconds, though the 944 was more about long-distance touring with occasional sporting prowess, rather than out-and-out performance.

Car and Driver tested the 944 Turbo and achieved a 0–97 km/ h (0–60 mph) time of 5. 9 seconds. The Turbo was the first Porsche production car utilising a ceramic port liner to retain exhaust gas temperature along with new forged pistons and was also the first vehicle to produce an identical power output with or without a catalytic converter. The Turbo also featured several other changes, such as improved aerodynamics, notably an integrated front bumper. This featured the widest turn signals (indicators) fitted to any production car, a strengthened gearbox with a different final drive ratio, standard external oil coolers for both the engine and transmission, standard 16 inch 951 Teledials, and a slightly stiffer suspension (progressive springs) to handle the extra weight. The Turbo's front and rear brakes were borrowed from the 911, with Brembo 4-piston fixed calipers and 12-inch discs. Engine component revisions, more than thirty in all, were made to the 951 to compensate for increased internal loads and heat.

This exterior of this lovely example presents well, and the paint is in good condition and has had a full respray in 2020. The wheels have been refurbished and are in excellent condition.

Inside, the car is fitted with many modern features including Factory Electric Sports Seats, electric windows and a sunroof. The interior presents nicely aside from some age-related creasing to the seats.

The car comes with the original drivers manual and booklets in a leather wallet. The history file contains the V5, previous MoT results, an inch-thick wedge of receipts and invoices relating to servicing and work done throughout the years. The previous owner had the vehicle almost 15 years but unfortunately the vehicle wasn’t used as much. It has now been regularly serviced and maintained in more recent years by HP Porsche Specialists in Essex. Invoices indicate that the car was regularly serviced there and has had lots of money spent, for example some of the recent repairs/ services done: front & rear brakes, anti-roll bar bushes, water pump, cambelt, fuel pump, rear fuel pump guard, full major service, fuel lines etc.
