Offered For Sale is my 1996 Volvo 850 GLT Auto Estate.
I bought this back in May 2023 from the daughter of the last owner who had sadly passed. He had owned the car since 2011 and prior to that the previous owner had owned the car since 2002. Just 4 previous owners to me.
The car was garaged and retired from the road in 2019. I purchased it and trailered it back from Kent, fitted a brand new Bosch battery and took it straight for an MOT.
Needed mainly small bits and I also purchased a refurbished set of 16" period correct Volvo alloys and good used matching tyres.
The miles on the car has read 163, 056 since 2011, verified by MOT history and documents present with the car. The previous owner only ran locally and used the garage within the village to complete any work on it. They confirmed that he only did around a 1000 miles a year at the most so roughly 8, 000 miles during his ownership.
This is the 2. 5 normally aspirated petrol model and returns 26 around town and 38 on a run, cruising at 65 mph.
I have used this as a family car, for commuting for work and as a parts chaser for a couple of project cars I have. I set the trip clock when I purchased the car and I have covered just over 12, 000 miles since May 2023 without issue.
The car start's runs and drives really well, its not without its faults and imperfections but its an honest used 27 years old car.
Engine and gearbox work really well. Runs and drives smooth, accelerates well and even has a fully working Sport mode that allows the car to rev higher between gear changes. It's been serviced with plugs, leads and oil. Has needed topping up a little after a good long run (Devon and back) but the engine remains dry and no smoke when accelerating.
The auto box oil was changed not too long before it was parked up in 2019 and remains clean and at the correct level.
Interior of the car is all original, factory black leather with the factory rear seat conversion making this the rare 7 seater.
All complete and original. All switches and controls work. Headlining is complete and without any sagging.
I have fitted a Sony CD headunit with correct Volvo adaptor wiring harness.
Rear seats fold flat and creates a large useful load space.
Car comes with factory electric pack, 4 windows, electric sunroof and heated front seats. All working fully. Seats themselves are manual adjustment.
Bodywork is straight without rust or rot. Sills, front wings, doors, rear hatch and bonnet are excellent. Paintwork has suffered from lacquer peel to bonnet, roof, rear spoiler and mirrors, all evident within the photos. Would benefit from another polish but presents well. Very solid shell, never welded or repaired.
There are some scratches on the bumper corners and some marks within the paintwork but again, shown within the photos and this is a used but cherished 27 year old car.
The car is fitted with a single electric towbar. Fitted by the previous owner to tow a small trailer for tip runs. I have the lightboard and additional number plate which I will place within the boot for the new owner.
V5 is in my name and there is also the original Volvo service book, stamped to 111, 000 miles from Volvo main dealers. There a folder of paperwork from previous owners. Any work during my ownership has been completed by myself.
I wasn't looking to sell the 850 estate and always wanted to own one and would happily jump in this a drive to Scotland or Cornwall but am looking to purchase a VW T4 van or similar as my requirements from work has changed and I don't want to carry tools etc in this and cause any damage to the interior.
I recently had this up on a friends ramp and there are a couple of bits that may need addressing prior to its MOT in May.
There is noise from a front wheel bearing, there is a movement in the NSF ball joint and two tyres may be an advisory due to low depth.
If the Advertised price is met then I will include a set of 2 x Wishbones, 2 x Drop Links and 2 x Track Rod Ends. It doesn't need these but I had intended to replace these parts prior to the MOT when replacing the NSF wishbone.
This has been a great car, the photos were taken today 10. 02. 2024 and with the above, give an honest description of the cars condition. It has been great to own and drive and has provided exactly what I expected from a classic well built Volvo.
Listed as a Classified Advert to ensure the car is viewed prior to a sale being agreed. I have use of another vehicle so this can be purchased and driven away once your insurance is in place.
Price reflects condition and the possible requirement for a couple of jobs prior to the next MOT.
