Description
Here we have my 1975 BMW E12 518, a rare sight on today’s classic scene.
I bought this car nearly a year ago with the Intention to work on it and bring it up to show standard but changes in circumstances leading to a lack of time and lack of storage is forcing me to sell unfortunately. Despite this it is very much a useable classic!
There are a few negatives. As you can see in the listing pictures, most of the doors have some level of filler in them - the car has been resprayed at some point though not to the best finish and the driver’s seat has some wear and tear.
The previous owner had done various bits and pieces to it in that time including an engine rebuild to some degree; it does run very nicely so I don't doubt it! it is currently running an electric fuel pump as the old mechanical pump is knackered - my intention was to replace it and return it to standard but never got around to it.
I've done alternator mount bushes, ignition coil, distributor cap and HT leads along with fuses and other service bits and sorted the timing out though it can be a little finicky in the cold, also replaced the NSF tyre as it was perished. There are a few boxes of spares in the boot and the original steel wheels as well and the car is pretty much complete.
the not so good parts are the sills and the doors - the sills have been replaced but have warped so they're not the most aesthetically pleasing while the doors have some filler in them, there's also some less visible MOT patchwork under the bonnet and in the rear arches but overall it's pretty solid for a car it's age! Also the interior blower doesn't work which I never got around to fixing
It runs and drives, though I’d recommend trailering away as she’s an old girl
