Absolutely stunning matching numbers classic two-stroke UK RD250F in virtually as-new condition. Last of the air-cooled 'coffin tankers', with the later disc brakes and 'mag' wheels. Every last nut and bolt on this bike has been stripped down, restored, re-painted/ plated or replaced with new. As you can imagine, this restoration took a long time and cost a small fortune - the new seat (with steel pan) alone cost £750, and that was in 2017!
Not entirely original in appearance, as the yellow is a little lighter/ brighter and some fixtures/ fittings have been changed for modern stainless. And the handlebars are flats with a top-quality stainless Halcyon bar-end mirror/ end-stop and anti-vibration grips. However, please note that the price includes the original Yamaha bars (re-chromed) complete with brand new mirrors and grips, plus a newly reconditioned Yamaha master cylinder with stainless fitments, new lever and good left-hand thread.
Icing on the cake is an immaculate spare instrument binnacle comprised of newly reconditioned and zeroed clocks, c/ w with surrounds, brackets, central warning-light pod and new ignition switch/ lock with two keys - this is easily worth £300 and comes along with the bike. Please note that, to date, the bike has done just 74 shake-down miles since the rebuild, and so the engine requires running in.
Bike comes with a V5C and recent MOT, although it's now registered as a Historic Vehicle - so it requires no future tests and is free to tax. That said, all the electrics work, including oil/ neutral warnings and brake lights front and rear. It has a brand new Motobatt gel battery and the generator is charging. Original Yamaha CDI ignition has been changed for modern Newtronics (aka Piranha).
This exceptional RD250F comes with fascinating history - it was voted one of 2014 Classic Bike's 'Ten Best Reader Rebuilds', alongside such notable machines as a 1966 T120 Bonneville, 1954 BSA Gold Star and 1973 Kawasaki Z1. Unfortunately however, following the show, the bike was put into storage due to issues with the owner's health, and it came to me last Summer as a non-runner in need of some specialist recommissioning. This has now been done, and I'm pleased to report it now goes and handles as well it looks!
I'm also happy to say that I have a hand-written letter from the previous owner, detailing the restoration story together with two original tickets for the show plus copy of Jan 2014 edition of the magazine. And pleased to have supplied him with a video showing his pride and joy running exactly as he intended (this is available by request).
I'll happily try to answer any questions and all inquiries are welcome. Viewing is highly recommended - I am retired and available most times.
