This fine example of a completely standard, 1986 Audi 2. 2 Coupe GT has only had 2 owners for the vast majority of its life. Both the first and second owners used the car almost exclusively for road trips to France, hence the current low mileage of 72, 792.

The documented service history is present from 2004, where the car underwent all servicing and repairs at Northfield Audi in Tetbury. No expense appears to have been spared. Recorded mileages:

• 2004: 17, 451
• 2005: 37, 457
• 2006: 46, 519
• 2009: 57, 044
• 2010: 60, 163
• 2011: 64, 286
• 2012: 65, 926
• 2016: 66, 788
• 2017: 68, 669
• 2018: 69, 901

The car was purchased by the third owner in 2022 and underwent a significant restoration. The following parts were replaced, resulting in an MOT in September 2022 at a mileage of 70, 461:

I purchased the car and became the fourth owner in December 2022. During 2023 I put on 4 new Avon tyres (which have only done -1, 200 miles) and had the car Dyno-tested at Ric Wood Motorsport (of TV’s ‘Car SOS’ fame). The engine was found to be in excellent health, making 136bhp; only 2bhp down from new.

Some ongoing fueling problems from the restoration were finally sorted by IC Classics in Holmfirth, with a full check and test of the fueling and injection system and a specialist refurb of the Warm Up regulator. A new clutch slave cylinder followed in July, and it passed its MOT in September 2023 with 72, 394 miles on the clock.

In 2024 the car benefited from a new coolant temperature sensor. The wheels have just been refurbished and the roof and rear quarters have also been professionally resprayed. The remaining bodywork is exceptionally good for a car of this age but it’s not a showroom queen; this car is an original, very well presenting, head-turning, honest, usable classic.

Having said that, the blue interior of the car is in incredible condition, with signs of minimal wear and no rips or tears to the upholstery. The carpets look like new, feel plush and the mats are in excellent condition. The original Blaupunkt radio is supplied and ready to be fitted unless you wish to install a modern unit (a CD / FM radio unit is also included in the sale). The car even retains its original window, boot and engine bay stickers. The engine bay still looks amazing following the painstaking restoration in late 2022. The boot is clean and contains the space saver wheel.

The car is a joy to drive. The engine pulls strongly in all gears, the gearbox is slick and precise, the clutch is light and the exhaust sounds fantastic with that characteristic 2. 2 5 cylinder engine note. It steers, handles and brakes more like a modern car than a 38 year old classic, which is again testament to the excellent work done in 2022. All the dials work, showing full oil pressure and voltage. It has run exclusively on Shell V-Power 99 octane petrol during my ownership.

The sale includes a wealth of documentation and receipts, including the original owner wallet / manual, an Audi sales booklet, a Souvenir Guide, a Haynes manual and spare parts that came with the car. Both original keys and the V5 are present.

The car is insured, taxed and available for a test drive in the Marple Bridge area of Stockport. A 1986 C reg when new, it currently benefits from a private registration; A22 CGT (Audi 2. 2 Coupe GT), which is also included in the sale.

Next MOT is due Sept 12, 2024. With it being so far away and so few miles being done since the last MOT, I didn't feel it necessary to renew the ticket. However, this can be negotiated with the successful buyer for additional peace of mind.
