This Fs1 Yamaha was restored by us (see our facebook page at under125 ... classic mopeds uk) in 2019 for a series of three articles that appeared (and remain) on the website of classic-motorbikes. net ... happy to forward the links. My search for a 'Popsicle Purple' early Fizzie proved fruitless unless I had a lottery win so when this later FS1 came up for sale locally it was a no-brainer ... the engine hadn't altered since the first of Yamaha's pedal powered icons hit our shores, just the tank and bolt on bits were modified by the factory. Once stripped to nuts and bolts the hubs were cut out, overhauled and painted before being shipped off to Suffolk where new spokes and rims waited with the wheel builder. Fresh tubes and tyres complete the job whilst the frame was flatted and primed with new metal being welded in to accommodate a replacement pin that arrived with our new centre stand. The speedo says 46k miles but previous owner was unable to confirm if this was original to this bike we cannot confirm, it works and is very clean so remains. It was noted the engine had a slight crack alongside the sump bolt (no doubt overtightened in the past) and initially we were happy to live with this as it didn't leak. We decided two years later to send the engine to specialist builder at South Devon Classics for repair but when the alloy weld failed a replacement crankcase was sourced and full rebuild carried out in their workshops. All vapour blasted with new seals and bearings plus a full check over confirmed a recent 60cc barrel was fitted. An invoice £650 for this work is available. Forks drained and new seals fitted, new gaiters together with aftermarket mudguards, exhaust, chain and sprocket set ensured the credit card bill made for interesting reading. The tank and seat panel went to Yamaha FS1E & Small Two Stroke Restorations in Canterbury for perfect finish, again not cheap but worth the outlay. We finished the frame in correct satin black and fitted new head bearings, also new rear shocks and fresh headlight but with factory lens installed. Luckily we were able to obtain a full set of original indicators from YPVS spares, plus handlebars and period grips. Completed 2023 and since has travelled no more than 10 miles, both fuel and oil tanks drained due to limited use better to mix as required. The number plate is for display purposes only ... registered June 88 makes this one of the last Fizzies imported, never bothered with MOT as not used on the road ... Will get a correct number plate organised, V5 in my name, comes with owners manual ... video running available, whats ap or transfer any questions please just ask
