I bought this car from "French Classics" in Kent. They had fully recommissioned it. Since then I have added/ undertaken: Full "Lanoguard" underbody treatment, professionally refurbished the wheels, fitted a DAB Radio, (original one available as well) and sourced overmats from Germany. The Gris Perle paintwork is excellent, as is the brightwork and the interior. Car as original extras, electric front windows an draught excluders on the front widows.
My first trip was from Kent to Northumberland and it never missed a beat, and hasn't since. I had planned Continental touring but health issues have prevailed.
The attraction to me of the Athena was it's simplicity. No complex fuel injection, no electronics to speak of. Hydraulics work perfectly, Diravi steering amazing! Other character features include yellow headlights, 1980's stickers, including what I think is the original dealer.
Plenty of paperwork, some French.
Never driven by me in rain or salt.
A thoroughly usable classic that holds it's own in modern traffic.
Not the cheapest, but probably the best - given that one could pay more than £30, 000 for a Gti, it represents good value.
