Description
This is the 50cc Honda SS50 Moped / Motorcycle.
It was manufactured with both pedals and a kick start which I understand manoeuvred around new regulations that had come in.
One of the pedals could be turned around so that they could act as foot rests.
One of the first 4 stroke mopeds to the market.
This moped is being sold as is and will need some attention.
* It doesn`t start. A mechanic has looked at it and there is a spark at the Mag but doesn`t go to the the plug so his opinion is that the HT lead is either earthing on broken. It doesn`t look too good so it could well be that.
* The mud guards have surface rust - especially the front one. Ideally they would need re-chroming or better still re-painting.
* It is lacking its ignition key but can be turned on with a small flat screwdriver.
* The pin allowing the pedal to turn is stuck / seized.
* The brake lever cable is stuck / seized.
Good Points:-
* it comes with its V5C
* The petrol tank is very good. May well be a replacement.
* The seat is in good condition.
* Both the wheels are good as are the tyres which look newish - the front ones still retain their new sprigs.
* The engine is free with good compression.
* The moped comes from a deceased collector.
* The mileage shows 19524 on the odometer.
* First registered 01. 08. 1976 / Capacity 49 c. c.
Item can be viewed or collected just 10 mins from J22/ J23 M5 Somerset.
Either is most welcome. Back in the day you could ride a moped on a car licence providing it had footrests.
Honda designed pedals so that one could be moved around which acted as a foot rest.
Honda was also the first to have a 4 stroke engine in a moped I am told.
