Description

This stunning E28 in Cosmos Blue Metallic is an early model (Jun 1983) with a "bulletproof" M30 engine.

Honest, unrestored BMW E28's in this condition now very hard to find, they have become much sought after by BMW enthusiasts and Classic Car collectors alike. Reliable and usable, this car represents a great opportunity to own one of the best examples of this classic “shark nosed” 80s BMW saloon, currently available.

For the last 9 years the car has only covered 9-10, 000 miles during that time. It has also been re-registered to NST 343Y during my ownership, previously LAT 39Y. Over the last 9 years, like most Classic Car enthusiasts, I've spent a lot of money on the car (in the region of £20, 000) in maintenance, cosmetics (interior/ exterior) and necessary repairs. There is a history folder and receipts to prove a majority of these costs. Whilst there's still scope to put your own stamp on it, it means a lot of necessary work to improve the car has already been done. Big ticket items include...

New Alternator
Full Stainless Steel Exhaust System
Auto Gearbox Stripped and Rebuilt
Fuel Lines replaced
Welding as required (No remaining issues under the car)
New Fuel Tank
Partial Replacement of Upholstery
New Mass Air Flow Sensor
New Fuel Pump
New Idle Control Valve
Full respray (with the exception of the Roof)
Overhaul for Sale of Vehicle in 2023-2024 (>£4000 spent)

There's also plenty of other work been undertaken over the past 9 years for MOT's for Suspension, Brakes, Tyres etc. All MOT's since 2006 are also included in the accompanying history folder. Now MOT & Tax exempt. There's also an original service book present which is well-stamped.

Paintwork is in excellent condition, underneath is solid and the car is in excellent mechanical condition too.

As always with a 41 year old vehicle there are a couple of small, inexpensive items that you could sort to bring it to more of a concours level vehicle. However, personal reasons mean I have to "pass the torch" to a new proud owner. However, I can say with confidence the car would be able to be driven away to be either used as a daily drive or stored as an investment.

I have a number of spare parts (including brand new front fog lamps and cabin switch, lenses, lights, clips etc.) which can be negotiated in the sale should the buyer wish. All the spare parts will be included for asking price.

If there's any further information, photo's you need or questions you'd like to ask please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll gladly answer them to the best of my ability. Any inspection welcome and sensible offers invited.

Moving overseas is forcing my reluctant sale. The BMW E28 5 Series was one of the most handsome cars of the 1980s and remains a fantastic driver-focused luxury saloon today.

The 6 cylinder E28s were tipped by Quentin Wilson as one of his “Smart Buys” in the Classic Cars Investment Guide 2021 and at 41 years old, this car has been recently registered as an “Historic Vehicle”, which allows for Road Tax, MOT and ULEZ exemptions.

To my knowledge, the vehicle has been registered with a different registration numbers and 11 previous owners since registration which has made it difficult for me to trace it's history. I have MOT's dating back to 2006 which suggest the vehicle was located in or around Harrogate until 2011/ 2012. I acquired the E28 525I on 19/ 08/ 2015, registered as LAT 39Y, from its previous owner who lived in Sudbury, Suffolk. It then travelled to Edinburgh with me where it has been based for the last 9 years and only covering 9, 000-10, 000 miles during that time. It has also been re-registered to NST 343Y during my ownership.

I used this vehicle as my daily drive from purchase until the pandemic when I bought another vehicle and decided to store the BMW as an investment and just use it for Sunday drives and taking to Classic Car Shows in Scotland.

These car's are now rising considerably in value and will continue to do so, so purchase will also definitely be an investment.
