Description

I have for sale my 1963 Daimler 2. 5 V8 saloon, which I've owned for the past 14 years and which has been in storage for many years, but is now back out and running again. The car was restored years ago at great expense (over £40, 000 in todays’ money) and then stored, having done very few miles.

I have a huge pile of receipts covering work done when the car was restored by the previous owner; at that time all the usual bodywork issues on these cars were dealt with, eg new front wing nosecones, new crossmember, new crows feet, new chassis legs, new springs and spring boxes, new fuel tank, new v mounts, new door frames, new jacking points, new panhard rod mounts, the list goes on and on, I don’t think there were any of the typical MK2/ V8 body issues that weren’t addressed.

As we all know, the major cost in these cars is in bodywork and chassis repair; the cost to repair one of these bodyshells can be colossal, but this one has already been done.

There are also numerous receipts for mechanical work including engine overhaul with reboring and cylinder head reconditioning, as well as carburettor reconditioning, torque convertor repair, brakes, electrics, etcetc. The car is also fitted with a full stainless steel exhaust system.

General condition now is rather scruffy but solid; the paintwork is in need of attention, particularly the boot lid, where there seems to have been some kind of paint reaction, (see the pictures); and the rest could also do with attention, it’s a bit spotty. The interior is also a bit scruffy, though carpets, headlining and door cards are new; the rear seat needs some re-stitching and a repair to the top of the back cushion, and all the leather would benefit from some leather treatment and perhaps re-colouring. The woodwork is all present but would benefit from a rub back and re-varnishing.

Recent work has included a rebuild of the brake callipers with new seals etc, a couple of new brake cylinder assemblies and a new master cylinder, new front suspension top and bottom ball joints to replace seized ones, a full engine service with new air, oil, and fuel filters, oil change, new spark plugs, new rocker gaskets and tappets and carburettors set, and some minor electrical issues resolved.

While a bit of cosmetic attention and some further recommissioning wouldn’t go amiss, it wouldn't take a huge amount of work; the expensive parts were dealt with when it was restored, and what’s needed now is mainly cosmetic and detail work to bring it back into full use. I simply have too many projects, which means that this car would have to wait for too long in the queue; it would be better to pass it on to someone who can give it the time it needs.

I’m looking for £6500 for it, though I would also be interested in a swap or deal on a rigid and girders Norton Model 18, 19 or ES2: I've always wanted one!
