The Series III was launched in 1971, and didn’t change a great deal from the Series IIA that preceded it. It is still the type of classic Land Rover that features strongly in the general public's perception of the Land Rover, and its shape was carried right through from the Series II to the most recent Defender, which only this year has ceased production after its long 67 year life span. Upgrades from the Series IIA included a full synchromesh gearbox, new dashboard with integral heater and instrument cluster and radiator grille.

This particular model is a short wheel base (88”) ‘Hard Top’ model from the early 80s, in need of a little bit of extra TLC. Everything is operational and it is running and driving, however it could do with some further time spent on it to get it up to scratch – Some of the welding repairs on the chassis that have been done are a bit ‘amateur’, the odd bit of additional welding could really do with doing on the front panel, driver’s door frame etc., and small items like the brake lines need clipping on properly rather than cable ties. Cosmetically it is also a little challenging having been brush painted in Hammerite Green, but it all depends on how far you want to go with it or what you’re using it for – Otherwise, it’s all working and driving, plus has the added benefit of an overdrive.

The 2. 25 diesel starts fine from cold with the usual amount of heat required and a bit of smoke. Once warmed up a bit it pulls well, and all gears select as they should plus the overdrive (v. quiet!), low range and four-wheel drive options all work correctly. The brakes seem to work fine (there is an initial slight pull to the left on first application but evens out so may just be shoe adjustment), and these we are told had been gone through recently. The steering also has nothing untoward. There is a bit of an oil leak from the sump area when warm, but probably something easily sorted.

Inside, the interior is in okay order, the dash top has the usual cracks in it, but is complete. The seats are the later cloth-type with head rests, which are a lot more comfortable than the early style. Someone has also carpeted it throughout for additional soundproofing. The odometer reads 60957, however we are unable to verify whether this is correct (although the old MoT records back it up). All the lights, wipers and heater work, including the rear fog lamp. The heater has also been double cored, so should put out a bit more heat than standard!

We are selling this Landy as another ‘spares or repairs’ candidate for someone to carry out an easy rolling project… You could do the odd few bits to it to get it roadworthy, then use it as a Landy should be used, or use it as a donor for a restoration project, whatever you want to do with it. We just haven’t the time/ capacity to carry out the work ourselves currently, so she is waiting for a new owner to give it the attention it requires.

Please note, this vehicle is sold on a trade basis as spares or repairs, therefore we are unable to offer a warranty on this vehicle.
