Owned by myself coming up 5 years and been a fantastic second car for fun, sunny days out. Has mostly been garaged throughout my ownership and only used on dry days but never laid up for more than a fortnight.
Power steering and Electric windows and that’s it! Back to basics, uncomplicated, spirited motoring with top up or down. Non ABS model - minimal sensor failure or dashboard lights anxiety. Only issue in nearly 5 years and approximately 1800 miles has been battery light coming on while driving home after a day out, which turned out to be the alternator. Car still made it safely home and has been ultra reliable throughout.
Bodywork in generally excellent condition for age - Rear inner and outer arches done both sides approximately 6 to 7 years ago. Sills very solid and tidy. Underside is very sound and well waxoyled including suspension arms. There is a very small localised patch in the floor pan that will require welding for the next mot, been quoted approximately 3 hours labour by local garage.
Vinyl roof in a rare blue shade which really suits the car and is still in fantastic condition, with heated glass rear screen. Roof drain holes annually checked / flushed through - perfectly clear - carpet dry.
100+ 5 spoke alloys with locking alloy centre caps in great condition and very good matching tyres on both axles - fully balanced and no leaks
Black leather interior In lovely clean condition with only light wear to Drivers seat outer bolster. Mahogany veneer centre console and dash vent inlays. Centre console storage lid hinge repair kit fitted.
Period correct quality Sony Radio CD MP3 player with front aux in and iPod connectivity. Electric aerial regularly lubricated and working perfectly.
Low average mileage 115k with engine and gearbox very strong. Starts, runs and drives really well.
Very well maintained in my ownership and by previous owner who was a very experienced mechanic.
Has had regular oil changes - Mobil 1 engine oil and genuine Mazda oil filter.
Redline MT-90 GL4 fully synthetic gearbox oil - plus original gearbox under tray repaired.
Redline 75W90 GL5 fully synthetic rear differential oil
Engine coolant flushed and replaced 50/ 50 mix
Brakes regularly serviced including brake fluid replaced throughout system. Discs and pads in excellent condition front and rear.
Clutch slave cylinder replaced.
Rear springs replaced.
Uprated LR180 Hitachi reconditioned alternator from a mk2. 5 fitted - this was purchased from a renowned Mx5 specialist who also reconditioned the cars’ original LR170 Hitachi alternator, which is boxed as new and will be included in the sale.
Battery been maintained regularly with quality CteK smart charger. Ctek quick connect coupling fitted in boot with flashing led traffic light battery status indicator, which will stay with the car - very handy device. Also brand new unused Ctek quick connect 12 volt cigarette power socket adapter to provide accessory power from inside the boot, will be included in the sale as well.
Half Tonneau cover in very good condition.
Wind break deflector.
Custom roof cover bought new and still in excellent condition.
Sealey Indoor/ Outdoor breathable full cover in as new condition.
Light dent damage and scuff to near side front wheel arch and front bumper corner which does not really stand out too much against the dark blue colour. Bonnet has localised lacquer peel to front near side corner. Rest of paintwork is generally excellent with minor marks and very light scratches commensurate with age. Only rust showing externally is in the usual area at the bottom edge of the front wings and is non structural. Overall the car presents beautifully with a lovely deep shine that glistens in the sunlight. These early mk2s are becoming increasingly rare and this is a great opportunity to purchase a well preserved, well cared for, appreciating example at a very reasonable price.
Change of plans and circumstances means the Mazda is getting used less and less and I’ve reluctantly decided to put it up for sale. Although absolutely fine to use as is, it is being sold as a potential running resto project for someone to enjoy through the summer and hopefully take to the next level when suits, as was my intention. To this end, the sale includes a brand new genuine Mazda near side front wing still in box, purchased retail from Mx5 Parts.
