Description
I'm handling the sale of my dad's low mileage Mk1 MX5 Dakar, and it's a beauty!
The Dakar is a 1. 8 special edition which, compared to standard, includes Twilight Blue metallic paint, grey leather interior, chrome strut-brace, unique wheel design, wood-effect trim and a Momo leather steering wheel.
Dad bought it in September 2018 (at around 16, 000 miles) and is the fourth owner. It has been garaged and meticulously maintained during his 7. 5 year ownership. This has included required servicing and having the water pump and cambelt replaced at Mazda in 2023.
The bodywork is completely original and rust free, including the sills and arches. It was clay-barred, machine polished and waxed in October 2024 just before being stored away for the winter months.
The roof is in perfect condition, the rear window has always been zipped-out when dropping the roof so is in great condition.
The car is standard other than having a contemporary Sony radio with USB & Bluetooth, and a Pipercross cone air filter (the original airbox is included with the car). We are also including a full set of spare alloy wheels (no tyres).
This is an extraordinary example, as illustrated by the images and also by it never having had an MOT advisory (full disclosure - it did fail in 2015 for the wipers not clearing the windscreen properly!). As you'd expect for a car in this condition, everything is tight as a drum - it pulls brilliantly through each of the gears, and the gearshift retains that famous rifle-bolt action!
It is currently stored in a rented garage, so we will need a few days' notice for any viewings. Dad is a lifetime car enthusiast and the Dakar is the latest in a long history of sporting cars, including a 3. 2 Carrera, Sebring Sprite, Ashley Midget, two MGBs, Golf GTI, AlfaSud Ti and various Minis.
The car has been carefully owned, always garaged and meticulously maintained. We have the complete ownership history documented, including when it was included in the sale of a house as the buyers liked it so much when they viewed the property! It's currently kept in a garage alongside other enthusiasts' Daimler SP250, VW Campervan and Triumph Vitesse.
Thanks for reading.
