A true classic – this 48-year-old Mercedes 280SE is in very good condition inside and out, and a pleasure to drive.
The body is solid with no structural rust, only minor surface rust in a few places – remarkable for a car of this age. The paintwork isn’t perfect but still presents well and suits the car’s character.
The interior is completely original and in great shape, adding to the car’s authenticity and charm.
Mechanically, the car runs beautifully. It’s recently been serviced, and a brand new battery has been fitted. The engine starts on the button and the drive is smooth, comfortable, and effortless – just as a Mercedes should be.
A well-preserved example that’s ready to enjoy or improve further.

Having previously owned the W123, W124, and W201, I was keen to experience the W116 — a car that truly marked a turning point for Mercedes in terms of refinement, safety, and presence on the road.
Over the past year, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed owning and driving this car. It’s a real head-turner and regularly draws compliments and admiration wherever it goes. During my ownership, I’ve taken good care of it, ensuring it remains in strong mechanical health and visually presents well for a nearly 50-year-old car.
What makes this car unique is its blend of old-school engineering, timeless design, and solid road presence — it offers a driving experience that’s both nostalgic and surprisingly refined. One of my personal favourite things about this W116 is how effortlessly it glides down the road — it still delivers that unmistakable Mercedes comfort and confidence.
Included with the car is a set of whitewall tyres I haven’t installed yet, which I believe would further enhance its period-correct appearance.
As a true enthusiast, I’m now looking to explore other models in the Mercedes-Benz classic range, which is the only reason I’m parting with it.
