Description
1974 Porsche 914 with 2 litre engine. Bought by me direct from importer in 2018. Restored by myself with exterior respray in original colour. All new full body seal kit bought and fitted from 914 Rubber throughout the car. Interior as I bought it, with two tone colours which look great, but are not the original fitment and have suffered with time. Car spent 40 years in Arizona and then California before being imported to the UK. Car was 95% rust free, hell hole was fine, as was majority of usual places. But floor was replaced under seats with a restoration design panel, plus new battery tray to replace butchered original and a custom made panel in rear boot. All other small patches dealt with accordingly and then thoroughly treated with Wax oil rust preventer or overpainted. Engine is the desirable 2 litre unit with the original big valve heads, plus a pair of Dellorto twin choke 40 carburettors and a Camshaft to suit this configuration. Engine pulls very well in all situations and the car is a joy to drive. New clutch and clutch cable fitted in my ownership along with new throttle cable. Suspension has been renewed on the rear with new coil springs and Bilstein B6 shocks, while the front has Koni adjustable shocks fitted. New brake calipers, pads and discs on the front, with new pads and discs and rebuilt calipers on the rear. The heating and ventilation system all works, with a new fresh air fan fitted in my ownership. Car fitted with the one year only heat exchangers and a modified Porsche 914/ 6 exhaust silencer. A spare set of the one year only heat exchangers will go with the car along with a set of Riviera wheels and some other spares. Car fitted with UK spec headlights and tail lights. Original tinted glass fitted from factory. Targa roof panel in good condition fitting perfectly with no cracks or damage to the fibre glass. Everything works on the car, except for the auxillary heating fan, which is in-situ but not connected to the heating system (never needed it). I have driven the car throughout the last 6 years in all conditions and it has always behaved amazingly. The handling and feel is amazing for a 50 year old car and I am only selling as I have possibly foolishly bought something else and need the space in my garage. This car is in good condition throughout and is very solid and honest, but it is not perfect, please come and view the car for yourself and judge it in person. These 914s are amazing to drive, responsive, light and fun at all speeds on any road. With amazing grip and roadholding it is a shame that they have always been disregarded as the runt of the Porsche stable. With 2 boots and a large passenger cabin they are very practical and I have driven mine on long journeys with no aches or pains in my aging bones at the end of it. Again for a 50 year old car it behaves and copes very well in comparison to other 1970s classics. Personally I think that if Porsche had continued to race these great little cars and had increased their performance as they did with the comparative 911 then the 914 would be much more respected and sought after. After all, it will still out handle and out perform its stable mate when the engine power is the same between the two.
