Description
1965 Norton 650ss. Vertical twin with slimline Featherbed frame, a very good example and an excellent runner.
The 650 Sports Special was a super bike of its day, winning a string of successes in production endurance races in the early sixties. It won Thruxton's 500 mile event three years in a row and in 1962 and 63, was voted Machine of the year by Motor Cycling News. It is one of the best twin cylinder bikes Norton ever made.
I have owned the bike for 30 years plus but have only ever used it for light fine weather rides mostly around my local country roads, with the last 10 years having little use. So it's now time for a new owner.
Previous owner had carried out an extensive engine and gearbox overhaul and replaced many parts throughout, the list is too extensive to list here but I still have original receipts. Also carrying out improvements include blasting and powder coating the frame, fitting Commando electrics, transistor ignition, TLS front brake, Hagon rear shocks, Commando Mk111 oil filter and concentric carbs. (still have many original parts, which will be passed to the new owner)
A recent oil change has been done, replacing engine, gearbox, primary chaincase and front fork oil along with the necessary gaskets.
