Another Lovely old Norton from my collection, 500cc de lux 1953.
And this is the most reluctant of sells, my father bought one of these when he came back from the Korean war, it was his entire army pay-packet back in the day.
easy starter, along with the gearbox and brakes everything works as it should , its had some restorative work along the way.
For its 73 years though its holding up really well.
I've had the chain case cover sprayed up in 2 pack as I fitted the new type neoprene chain case cover gasket, so come tomorrow morning I will check for leaks, no oil leaks from the engine or gearbox though.
normally if these things have spark and fuel they run and start easy and this is the case, really first or 2nd kick and your'e away.
With the 4 speed box its surprising how fast these pop along, must have killed hundreds back in the day!
The seat is in good shape, both top and bottom, new tyres and rear brake shoes, Throttle action is really nice, no sticky cable etc,
New battery 6v fitted.
The tinwork is in good shape but its not been recoated for a while, but again it presents well for its age, also a side stand, very handy with these heavy british bikes.
Had a new carb at some point and no doubt quite a few other bits along the way, I see a receipt there for a magneto amongst others etc,
Good tank no dents or excessive corrosion inside.
quite some old receipts with the bike from previous owners and a few mots which seem to confirm the very low mileage of late at least.
Also an extract from the Norton works records confirming the matching numbers of the frame and engine.
Been in my possession for 7 years, v5 here in my name along with the aforementioned scraps of paperwork!
Overall an honest bike which can be ridden just like it is and if you wish to tidy up and fettle her up a bit then a nice project, and matching numbers to boot!
forgot to mention a nice strong oil pressure return and the speedo does work, now there's a bonus! (lights also)
