Description
A very rare factory RHD Borgward Isabella coupe. Just 4 previous owners, it’s been mine since late 2019.
I’ve had it recently professionally checked over and it now has advisory free MOT.
It’s a beautiful example of a very rare and special car. It’s been kept indoors when not in use and has substantial photos of resto work and a thick history file
It’s part of my collection of 6 classic cars that I’m now reducing through choice.
I first saw Borgward’s at the NEC classic car show, I joined the owners club and the search began !
I bought this car off a respected member of the Borgward owners club 2 years later. He had completed the restoration and eventually decided to sell me.
The car is in amazing condition- tiny miles, good paint, wonderful art deco style interior and strong very recently serviced engine. The front and rear bumpers aren’t the best, but the rest of the chrome is good- new bumpers can be sourced- I just liked the original ones.
It’s column change with a recent clutch thrust bearing change .
Recent works include , full service, new speedo cable, 1x Temp. Sensor Revision
2x Lower radiator support bush rubbers,
4x Rear control arm bushes, 1 x Gearbox mount , 1 Complete set 20 mm. anti roll bar D bushes, Revision Water pump complete kit
- revision+modification for better cooling. All parts professionally fitted ahead of MOT
Parts were all sourced from a Borgward expert in Holland. Borgward cars were built in Bremen, West Germany and are a rare sight
Who really knows how many RHD Borgward Isabella coupes are left in the Uk? Some say 5 or 6 - let’s just say you’re very unlikely to park next to one !
You’ll be busy at events, explaining the history of the marque and how it’s not an early Mercedes or a posh Karmann ghia !
On the Borgward owners club site there are many photos telling the story of the bare metal full restoration. I have a file full of invoices , nothing much before the restoration.
While unlikely to win any drag races, this car keeps up with modern traffic ok- happily cruises at 50-60 mph without pushing it.
If you want to be picky, then you might challenge some of the panel gaps, you might want to buy stainless bumpers and realign boot lid as it needs adjustment- probably time to remind you it’s over 60 years old !
It’s a great car and has ywon local shows and must be one of , if not the best example available - in my opinion.
This is a collectors car, I’m not a trader, therefore unable to offer warranties - I’ve priced the car to sell - ideally to someone who will enjoy it and be the next great custodian.
Im not looking to part ex - I’m doing my best to down size my collection and not finding it easy !
V5 in my name , historic status , Current MOT
