Description
I'm the third owner of this lovely T5 C70 cabrio and have owned since June 2023. The owner prior to me had it from Jan 2004, so from 4 months old to just shy of 20 years old.
It's just been MOT'd, which covers it until 19/ 06/ 26. Partial service history with a few gaps. The only work I've needed to do in my 2 years are new brake discs and pads and wheel alignment. Two of the original Volvo BBS allloys were buckled, so I bought another set in better condition and had them swapped. This means I do have 2 spares available, if needed. All 4 wheels have matching Continentals with plenty of tread left.
It is coming up on 22 years old so isn't in showroom condition, as you'd expect, and is priced accordingly. It has its fair share of minor dings and scratches and if I hadn't just saddled myself with a huge mortgage I'd probably treat it to a full respray, to get it as new outside, but it does scrub up well regardless.
The interior is in good overall condition. Being beige it does have some colour transfer from clothing over the years of use. The speakers are showing their age and can get a bit distorted at higher volumes. The drivers sun visor recently came off as the mounts had become brittle. The passenger side will eventually need replacing too. I have my eye on eBay for a replacement but haven't found one the right colour yet. These shouldn't cost any more than £40 each/£80 for a set to replace and if I do come across one or a set in the meantime I will be replacing it/ them both. Only other thing I can think of that the radio aerial doesn't come up and down with the radio power. I have already replaced this aerial once, but the toothed cable which drives the movement keeps coming out of the motor. It's a relatively easy fix, but there's only so many times it's worth the effort to do, especially when the radio seems to work fine with it half up. I bought this car as I'm a huge fan of old Volvo's (and some new ones) and I think the 97-05 C70 is one of the most handsome cars of the era. I'm also a fan of practical cars and, considering it's a soft top, this is a very usable car. Four people can travel comfortably, it has a large boot and, if driven sensibly, can be pretty economical. I have 2 kids and we've regualrly used this as our family car for days out in warmer months.
It's a comfortable cruising car, rather than a sports car. Better suited to A roads than B roads. That doesn't mean it isn't capable of a turn of speed now and then and it has a lovely exhaust note when you do start to press on.
