Description
This rare Healey BJ7 was one of 455 RHD UK models and was first registered in 1962 by the previous owner who has sadly passed away. Unfortunately, his widow disposed of any documentation, along with a bedroom full of spares, including the original engine block, according to the owner's son. I bought the car in 2007 and obtained a Heritage Certificate.
The Healey was then given a documented bare metal restoration, with the body and Healey/ Ice Blue paintwork completed by JME Healeys, Warwick; the gearbox and overdrive overhauled by Hardy Engineering and the engine rebored by Automotive Services, Northampton, as well as unleaded conversion. It was then sympathetically restored and back on the road in 2015 and has covered just 1170 miles since then.
Upgrades include the already fitted more powerful BJ8 engine, with triple SU carburettors, electronic ignition and fuel pump, hi-torque lightweight starter motor, aluminium fuel tank and poly-bushed suspension. Other work included a rear differential overhaul, Waxoyled chassis, radiator re-core and replacement of all wheel hub splines, spinners and wheels, brake servo, copper brake and fuel pipes, upholstery, carpets, hood and cover.
The car has been recently MoT'd, expiry May 2026. The BJ7 still has the simplicity of early Healeys, before the walnut dash and bulbous lights of the BJ8, yet has the same convenience of a convertible hood. This Healey has only 1 previous owner and can be seen been driven by the UK actor, Clive Owen, in the film 'Close My Eyes' released in 1991. Its paintwork was black and had been ‘upgraded’ to look like a BJ8.
There are many, many photos of the body and general restoration, as well as it's condition prior to restoration, as well as all the significant bills.
