1930 Norton Big 4 – Banbury Run Eligible!!
I am selling my numbers matching Norton Big 4. Made in 1930, it is Banbury Run eligible. It’s in good condition as you will see from the pictures. There is a sizeable dent and some cracked paint on the fuel tank, (see pictures) but the tank remains fuel tight, no leaks. I’ve been quoted £650 to respray both the petrol and oil tanks and the bike has been priced for sale accordingly.
Other than replacing the odd control cable and changing the oil and grease, I’ve not done much to the bike. Looking at the paperwork, I can tell it was lightly reconditioned in 2001. It has had some restoration but also retains some great original features and has a great patina. Inevitably it does have some chips, scratches, cracks, stains etc on the paintwork, as you would expect on a 90+ year old machine.
It starts easily, rides well, the gears are great and the brakes work very well for such an old bike. Ideal machine for someone who actually wants to ride the bike.
I have two dating certificates, one from the Norton Owners Club and the other from the VMCC. I also have Kent County Council records. All documents show manufacture and first registration in 1930 and all sources cross reference to confirm this is a numbers matching machine. There is no original log book but I have a V5 in my name.
