Few realise what a giant killer the MK1 3 Litre Capri was. Launched in Autumn 1969, the car gained very positive press reviews and orders flooded in.
The September 1972 on Facelift 3. 0 GXL is for many enthusiasts the ultimate Capri. Its quad headlights and stacked rear lights, proved an instant hit with buyers. But sadly the Facelift MK1 was only in production for some 17 months, before being replaced by the heavier, questionably styled, hatchback MK2
This example is an Original V6 car & Not a clone
Originally Diamond White with black trim. Its factory fitted options included a vinle roof, steel sunroof, cloth seat centers
It was first registered in Sheffield by Ford main agents “ T. C. Harrison “ and back in time, was someone’s Fast road car.
In 1982 it was re painted red ( as so many cars were ) During the late 1980s, its engine was rebuilt to 3. 1 spec ( A Set Of 3. 1 Pistons Are Now almost £1, 200 ! ) which also included the fitting of a steel timing gear set.
It was also fitted with a boot mounted Facet electric fuel pump, Ramflo Sports air filter, Lucas Sports coil, Bosch Super plugs.
Its front suspension was uprated with LEDA wedged front struts, along with lowering springs.
It’s Rear suspension is LEDA heavy duty rear shock absorbers, Single leaf springs ( and a quality rear axle locating kit, which has now been removed for another Capri )
Vented discs are fitted to the front along with 14 x 6 “GB” Alloys.
It Also benefits from a Quick steering Rack “
Recaro “ Fish Net “ seats were also fitted.
It’s clutch cable snapped one day & this car has sat for circa 24 years, therefore its body shell needs full restoration, but it is savable and All repair sections are available from Ex Pressed Steel & Magnum panels etc
Because it was optioned with a Factory steel sunroof and vinle roof, so the roof skin needs work ( not difficult on these )
We Have Put Oil Into The Cylinders & The Engine Turns Over by hand With Plenty Of Compression
There are many £20k plus Capris out there that have not been properly restored, so this is your chance to restore this car correctly.
