Description
ex- Ron Haslam 1995 Mobil One Triumph Speed Triple Challenge racer, as seen at Triumph factory anniversary event Nov 2024, loads of history, photographs and race programmes - and outstanding bike with a great back story.
Well known in the MK1 Speed Triple Owners Club (MK1STOC) , a fantastic bike to ride and admire - sold with both race number board (daytime legal) and headlight.
A magnificent machine which features in many photographs, books and magazine articles. The STC race series really helped put Triumph back on the map, with the initial one-off 1994 event morphing into a full series in 1995, supported by Mobil. The prize money attracted he top flight riders of the time and the racing was both fast (for road based machines) and furious!
Ron Haslam had been brought in at an early stage to help hone the road bikes for the racetrack, with subtle adjustments that didn't spoil the good looks of the standard machines.
Stories abound on the less-legal alterations but that's for another time.
The apparent dating anomaly is simply explained - the bike was built in June 1994, initially supplied to Fowlers in December 1994, then passed to Granby Motors who entered it into the 1995 race series. It was not registered with DVLA until 21st January 1999 (not uncommon for bikes which had raced in this series).
