Last chance to own one of the best surviving Rover Metro’s in the UK. One of only 14 examples of the rare 1. 4 SL known to exist. The car was registered to its first owner in August 1992, but manufactured in 1991. It stayed with its fastidious first owner until 2015, covering 16, 000 miles, always garaged in its hometown of Kingston Upon Thames. In 2015 the car changed ownership to a local family member, but after a short period he sold the car to a neighbour who had known the car from new. Covering very little mileage and carefully stored the car was acquired by well known British Leyland fanatic the Rev C Corke in July 2018. It was during this time that the car was subject to a major mechanical overhaul completed by a well respected Birmingham based metro specialist as well as being treated to a complete professional rust proofing treatment to help preserve its almost 100% originality. During this period the metro was also given the ‘Tom Morley’ treatment , a well known metro expert and car detailer. In 2020 after seeing the car on display in the top 50 cars at the 2019 Festival of the Unexceptional the car was bought my another metro super fan based in Newcastle, spending a further three years of cosseting before I purchased the car in 2023. The mileage now stands at 19, 900. During my ownership the car has been serviced twice, most recently in April along with a new unblemished MOT. The car is kept garaged, fully maintained and the extensive detailing and overall condition is something that really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
The car is truly a ‘time warp’ condition car, both inside, outside and underneath. The history file is complete detailing year by year this cars remarkable life, never restored just pure originality, it even smells like a new metro!. The only reason I am selling this car is purely because of lack of use as can be seen by the miles covered by me since 2023.
There are no known faults with this car. A couple of very minor blemishes which could be resolved easily but I prefer the innocence of its originality.
Come and see it for yourself. It’s just clocked up 20, 000 miles! If not sold boson it will be put into careful winter storage. I bought it because of its history, condition and provenance. It’s also a rare vehicle and of all the classic cars I have owned this one gets more attention than any of the others.
