1999 Mercedes “R129” facelift SL320 in super rare Designo Sea Blue/ ocean blue factory paint and panoramic roof. Now with fresh MOT through to Sept 2026.

I am offering 1999 Mercedes “R129” SL320 in super rare Designo Sea Blue/ ocean blue factory paint panoramic glass hardtop roof with low milage and as such presented in truly amazing condition

Finished in special order Designo Sea Blue paint with a Saffron Nappa leather interior, with further specification of wood/ leather steering wheel; burred walnut root wood trim; cruise control; glass panoramic hard top; electrically adjustable steering column, seats (also heated) and wing mirrors, all of which works as it should. I believe this is the only R129 SL with this spec in the UK and possibly in existence.

Exterior wise has very few blemishes and paintwork, especially the special order colour, is in amazing condition and all door shuts and sills are immaculately clean.  Hard top glass panoramic roof in matching sea blue is in superb condition and kept on special trolley in a bespoke storage cover when using soft top in the summer months.  The blue canvas soft-top is in particularly good condition and looks like new with no creasing evident on either the material itself or the plastic viewing panels whilst the hood mechanism works as it should, both lowering and raising the top smoothly and quickly. The original five-spoke 17” “Albali”  factory alloy wheels have recently been refurbished and are like new with no kerb damage and shod in brand new Good Year Eagle tyres

Interior wise the soft Nappa leather (which can be prone to wearing quickly) is mark free and supple, with no rips or tears whilst the burr Walnut root wood retains its lacquer and presents beautifully. with soft-top in place, its mark-free lining matches the rest of the cabin. The hard top when in place gives amazing feeling of space with full panoramic glass roof with includes pulley blind and rear heating element. The original Becker radio has been replaced with a Bluetooth friendly period look Alpine unit however I do include both units in the sale.  The boot includes original toolkit, medical kit, warning triangle and the metal wind protector which looks unused.  Only thing to mention here is that the top of passenger door card by the windowsill has come slightly away due to I what I think is previous mild sun damage but believe this just a small fix or can be reglued.

Mechanically the engine bay is in amazing condition and super clean, whilst bonnet retains its temperature resistant factory fitted lining. The V6 engine and gearbox all work as expected whilst the underside has been previously rust proof treated with Waxoyl. Previous owner I believe had regassed air conditioning which all works as expected. All electrics, roof hydraulics etc all work as expected.

I originally purchased from 4 Star Classics 3 years ago and in this time I have driven few hundred miles each year with odometer now at 58. 5k miles however most of that milage was done in the early years of its existence.  Under my ownership the car has been kept in a de-humified garage connected to a CTEK trickle charger and kept under a protective soft car cover.  I have only driven in dry conditions and serviced each year of ownership at a local Mercedes specialist with most recent service billing coming to a few thousand pounds (cam cover gaskets, gearbox cooling pipes, transmission oil change etc.) . The car comes with full bundle of paperwork history including FSH showing a combination of main dealer and independent Mercedes-Benz specialist stamps going back to manufacture.

Included with the car are all the car’s original manuals (including interior, exterior, technical, driving, dealer directory and mobile), two sets of keys and even the original hardcover sales brochure.

Reason for selling is I want to reduce my car collection and now selling two of my classic cars for next single classic car-only purchase! This is a beautifully presented, super rare R129 SL320 with panoramic roof and special order Designo colour that’s been properly looked after and its condition is testament to that fact. It is so good from every angle and there’s nothing apparent that needs attention, it just needs to be driven and enjoyed top-down this summer or hard top on for the winter.  Note R129 SLs have previously remained under value however quite a few sources including Classic Car magazine have recently highlighted low mileage good condition original examples as good investments for the future plus several Instagram Car-influencers have also started showcasing R129 ownership so now is the time to buy!
