Description
1996 Toyota MR2 2. 0 GTi T-Bar Limited Edition 10th anniversary No. 145
80200 miles.
MoT 04/ 2026
Excellent condition.
Purchased as a 3rd (sometimes 4th) car between my father and I and during our 13 year ownership the car hasn’t received even a single MoT advisory. Its been winter stored each year and garaged so not only has it not seen salt in years its only rarely seen rain too. Its been our high days and holidays car and has wanted for nothing.
The cars is almost unmodified but does benefit from a few tasteful upgrades.
The water pipes from the front to the back (that run over the top of the fuel tank) have been changed to a rubber type as the original metal one are prone to rusting on the welded bracket areas and leaking in very awkward to get to places.
Brake disc back plates have been replaced with custom stainless steel items so will outlast the car.
Hel stainless steel braided brake line (in blue wrap).
Brass gear shifter bushes.
Fully poly bushed suspension.
Stainless steel cat back exhaust that is only slightly louder than standard, very subtle and not intrusive at all, think OEM+
Cold air induction kit for the most amazing induction noise when required.
Carbon fibre trim on centre of steering wheel wood (as the original wood looks naff), can be removed if needed.
Wheels have been powder coated bright silver, original colour for the 10th anniversary is charcoal grey but they needed a refurb from age and we much preferred silver as it really pops against the blue paint work.
Brake calibers painted red.
Extensive history file.
Its in excellent condition, the underside is as good as the top side and has zero rust. These cars are getting on a bit now and have been neglected or thrashed, we took the time to find a good one and have preserved and enhanced it sympathetically over the years.
It turns heads for all the right reasons nowadays, those pop-up headlights will never get old, it sounds perfect, not loud, just right and driving on a summers evening with the windows down and the roof panels out, it doesn’t get much better in any vehicle. And it rides beautifully, somehow managing to corner flat but absorb bumps at the same time, something modern cars have forgotten how to do. You can drive it for hours and still get out feeling fresh. We have loved our time with the car and will miss it dearly. When we purchased it we were after a modern classic, it exceeded all expectations.
The only reason we are now selling is space and lack of use. My parents are retiring to the south coats and will be selling their house (where the car is garaged) and although I have space it would mean keeping it outside which I just can’t bring myself to do. I also have 3 young children who all love riding in it but those events are few and far between (for obvious reasons) so we have found ourselves using it less and less over the last few years (just over 100 miles a year for the last couple of years). It costs us next to nothing to insure (about £120 on a classic limited miles policy) and has been faultless reliable, always fires after half a key turn even after a winters lay-up period.
Its just been serviced with engine and gearbox oils being changed, a new cam belt, front brakes and an engine mount so if good to go for the next lucky owner.
