Description

1967 Chevrolet Corvette StingRay C2
(New underside photos added)
Specified new with the 327cu in High Output 350hp small-block engine, power steering, side-pipes, short-ratio axle (now replaced), manual gearbox, in Rally Red.

This is one of the best C2’s in the UK, it is in fabulous condition cosmetically and is mechanically absolutely spot on having just completed a 4, 000 mile tour without issue. The dismantled original, matching-numbers engine is included, but a brand new crate 327/ 350 GM engine was fitted in 2017 along with many ancillaries. This car is superb fun, the noise is sublime (but not too much on a cruise), the power is incredible and it raises as many smiles out of the car as inside it.

The huge history file includes its previous California title and many US invoices from a big restoration around 2005 along with an engine rebuild in 2006. It was then imported in 2013 to the UK by the previous owner who spent a long time searching for the right specification in the right condition.

There are loads of invoices from this Corvette’s life in UK including the following. New: windscreen, carpets, crate 350 engine in 2017 (bills for supply and fit come to £11k, compression test in 2024 confirmed all is good), clutch, thermostat, electronic ignition, fuel lines, wheel bearings, radiator hoses, caliper rebuilds, rear axle rebuild, battery, hub caps, tyres and myriad other bits and bobs. The short rear axle has been replaced with a standard ratio to ease cruising, the original is available.

The car had a full respray in its original colour in 2016 and the history includes the invoice and pages of photos of the respray and the rebuild after. The paint is still in magnificent condition and there is none of the crazing or blistering that can often affect glassfibre bodies. When inspecting the car prior to purchase, I can confirm that the steel frame is importantly in great condition and there is no rot in the birdcage and windscreen frame (unlike the other cars I viewed). Underneath the car is in as good condition as above, a ramp is available for viewing.

The history shows that this car has been used regularly over the last couple of decades and is on the button, has had money spent when and where required. And it drives fantastically, the carb is spot-on, there are no flat-spots, coughs, misses or excuses. There are no problems with the gearbox and clutch. The brakes are brilliant and the short pedal travel is extremely confidence-inspiring. The suspension works well with no clonks or graunches.

In preparation for our recent tour, I also worked on the following: clock fixed and restored, window/ door seals replaced with lots of screws, rubber bumpers etc properly fitted (to fix rattles), replacement front wishbone bushes.

I can confirm that the following is still working: radio, clock, all the ventilation and heating controls, cables and flaps, dashboard lighting and all door locks and ignition work off the same key.

Recent services invoiced in 2022 and 2024.

In advance of the tour all of the following were added or upgraded, all of which are reversible: replaced short rear diff with std ratio (short diff available), LED lights front and rear, LED interior lights including upgraded boot light, 2 wing mirrors, Revotec engine fan - thermostatically controlled with manual over ride, 4 point harnesses (original 2 point included), 12v & USB points, rear strut / seat belt bar, heavy duty sump guard, elec cutoff in glovebox, additional stone-catcher grill in front of the radiator, braided flexi hose for oil pressure gauge. The car (and its drivers!) completed the tour without serious issue and it proved what a fabulous car it is to drive and use. The tour was all on very smooth tarmac roads so the paintwork is in just as good condition with no extra chips or scratches. Since returning I have rebuilt the brake master cylinder and a steering valve, tightened the front wheel bearings and completed a thorough clean.

This car generates natural interest, admiration and warmth wherever it goes. We have created an amazing set of stories and memories from our time with it but we have other plans with a couple of pre-war cars and, as we can’t keep them all, we have decided to sell this Corvette. The new owner can rest assured this is not only in possibly the best and most usable specification, but is also in beautiful condition and is mechanically ready for any new adventure.

Also available is a box full of spare parts from caliper and power steering pump rebuild kits to wheel bearings to coils etc. plus numerous other parts such as new 80psi oil gauge.
