A reluctant sale of my 1972 Volvo 144 DL Auto in Cherry Red. I have owned the car for 6 years, it is well known locally and has appeared in magazine photo features.
Unfortunately being sold as a NON RUNNER due to a starting issue that I have not been able to diagnose despite fitting a new starter solenoid.
The car itself has 104000 indicated miles but this cannot be verified. It is in fair condition but showing patina with rust starting to develop on the rear arches. They are solid however and the bodywork is very honest about it's condition.
It has a period dealer fitted Thule roof rack with vintage suitcase. I have lowered it with Classic Swede springs and Bilstein struts and it also has 1973-stamped 15" Wolfrace Slots with very good Toyo tyres.
The interior is very complete and original but the driver's seat does have tears in the base.
Mechanically the car is very sound apart from the starter issue and was running perfectly up until then. In my ownership I have fitted a replacement gearbox, completely rebuilt the engine top end, refurbished the cooling and fuel systems and rebuilt the carb yearly. The all-round disc brakes were fully rebuilt last year.
The car comes with lots of paperwork and receipts, various workshop manuals, a box of spares and a fitted car cover.
Please note that the car is located in West Cornwall and will need transporting. I cannot deliver. I bought the car as an interesting project that I could daily drive and at one point happily ran it on a 30 mile each way commute.
Being a 144 saloon makes it rarer and more interesting that the estate in my eyes and this particular car is listed as one of 16 left.
The car is a great cruiser and surprisingly spritely with the torquey 82 bhp B20A engine. It will happily sit at motorway speeds although the 3 speed BW35 auto does make it a tad thirsty!
It turns lots of heads and I have been very proud to own it over the last 6 years.
