1956 deluxe 1200 oval beetle. One year only jungle green wearing mostly original paint. Swedish import, uk registered, tax and mot exempt. Matching numbers body and chassis. Original ‘split case’ transmission with non synchro first gear. 6v electrics and semaphores.
Body off underside restoration. Was a very solid car to start with requiring only a small repair to the battery tray and some heater channel and bumper mount repairs. Floor pans are still original! Once repaired the underside was completely stripped and treated then painted in body colour, the chassis has been left in its original black finish and treated/ waxoiled.
While the body was off all the mechanical bits have been refurbished or replaced using original parts or rebuilding. All new brakes and the master cylinder upgraded to a late and safer dual circuit one. New cables. Sticking to originality 4 new camac crossply tyres have been fitted.
It has the correct ‘fixed pedestal’ 30hp engine which has had new piston rings and the heads refurbished, new clutch, new exhaust, and ignition system. Original carburettor, fuel pump and distributor have been rebuilt.
Externally the paint has been blended and polished up to a great finish, new window rubbers fitted along with lots of other parts stripped, cleaned and preserved. The interior is in great condition for its age, with its original headlining and seat covers. The accessory parcel shelf is still fitted and it has some period 2 point seatbelts fitted in the front.
Overall a very straight and honest survivor car which still polishes up great and drives as good as it looks. The car also came with a dealer fit Nieman steering lock which still works. Ski racks are still fitted to the rear bumper from its time in Sweden!It’s a lovely honest and original car, I have carried out a restoration and preservation of it trying to keep many original parts and features, it drives like a proper classic beetle and turns heads with its green paintwork.
