Karmann Ghia Coupe 2 seater * model 144 RHD
Built Jan 1965 Registered Feb 1966 with VW birth certificate, built Osnabrueck Germany 14 Jan 1965, exported to Ramsgate England and UK registered in Feb 1966 as FEL888D. At some time in its previous life attempted export to China and back to UK in same container.
Later 1200cc engine no D1415497 from one of the last German VW beetle late 1970’s with domed (higher than standard compression ratio) pistons, fully rebuilt around 7 years ago / 2000miles ago. Runs perfectly. New crankshaft bearings, end float set 003-004” camshaft bearings, piston rings, re machined cylinder heads; valve seats new valves, guides and springs. New clutch kit. 12volt Alternator fitted, New Exide battery 2yrs ago and new starter motor. Engine oil change and valve clearance set prior to sale.
Car body sound deadening insulation panels and felt under all carpets, car is very smooth and quiet at any speed. Car will cruise all day at 70mph easily. Body restoration with photos, all corrosion cut out and replaced, all lower wing panels replaced and panels in spare wheel well replaced. Replacement solid front doors sourced from US. Complete bare shell respray inside and out to match original colour L595 Fontana Grey
Running gear: all new shock absorbers, empi rear sway away (camber compensator) wheels shot blasted and double powder coated, new single circuit braking system including shoes and master and slave cylinders. King pins re bushed and shimmed. New front tyres 2023, rears were new 10yrs ago with very little wear.
Interior; new ivory headlining, new TMI sun visors, new door cards to front and rear of car, clock in working condition, with replacement Kienzle movement. Hazard warning light system. Rear side opening windows with new ivory knobs. New aluminium sill threshold plates. Standard upholstery leatherette Aero Black
Show winning head turner, purchased the car in 2009 restoration completed in 2023 various MOT certificates confirming mileage of 150, 000. Reason for sale car is getting little use. Will be sold with 12month MOT
